I have the 60gb iPod photo and I am getting the caution/sad iPod symbol when I turn my iPod on these days. I cannot even get it to connect to my itunes so I can do a system restore. I have all of my itunes music on my external, all 65 gbs so I am not worried about losing the music. I just would like my damn iPod to turn on and play.

Any help out there. Suggestions?

Peace,
josh

you should be able to do a hard reset right from the ipod. If all else fails take it to the apple store, they will hard reset for you. Good thing you have the music saved, hopefull it only needs reset or your warranty is still good.

Had to pull the old Fonzie and slap it REAL hard against my palm before it would turn on or allow iTunes to recognize the device so I could restore to factory specs.

Now the conundrum. I have 65.7gb of music in iTunes but an iPod that will only hold 55.8gbs.

Not a very easy decision on which 10gb or2500 songs to leave off.

Cause I know it won't be the 10 mountain jams I have.

you might also try putting it in the freezer for an hour....I'm serious.

Take your fingers in a pinch position and press down firmly but carefully on the menu and the center of the pod at the same time for about 5 seconds, this will reset it- it could take a couple of times.

cpr for pods really

Funny you should mention that.
Mine was acting weird until I accidently dropped it.
Now it is working fine

The 60GB Ipod uses a hard drive unlike the smaller Ipods. These hard drives are prone to break if you use the Ipod while exercising or even walking a great deal. I had two break on me for this very reason. Now I have a small Ipod that I use for running and when I'm walking around. I have a 60gb that I only use on my Ipod boom box. Over the past year I haven't had a problem. This may not be what you want to hear but it is a possible reason why your Ipod isn't working.

In this case, I seriously doubt it broke b/c of physical exertion....
