If anybody still doesn't know why some of us are flipping out over the DTB/Santana tour....

"So, the circle is complete for me. You know, I'm in a place where I relate more and more to my peers. To B.B. King, Mr. B.B. King, and Mr. Tito Puente, people who have almost passed on. And I have a lot of gratitude and a lot of reverence, but I can see that in Derek Trucks. I can see the future in Derek Trucks. He has the heart for it. I will gladly give him the keys that God gave me. You got it man, I don't have a problem giving it to somebody who has the frequency of selfless service. It's not about Derek Trucks, it's not about me. It's about the glory of God."

Well said Carlos

This is so cool and typical Santana (one of the reasons I love him). Thanks for sharing, Rob! Makes those Santana/DTB tix I have for April even more precious!!!

Exactly what I thought the first time I saw him. Of course, my opinion doesn't carry the weight of Mr. Santana. But it feels good that the word is getting out, that more and more people are becoming aware.

How nice of him to consider he has the keys to such things. Though I am sure he was speaking from a purely selfless motivation and about his guitar playing techniques, instead of his beliefs.

:-)

I consider Derek a person at peace with himself and his life and yes, even happy with his life. At least that is what I see as an outside observer. So in that way I am in agreement with what Santana spoke.

Sometimes, however, I perceive Santana's religiosity bordering on the obsessive. Not a judgment, just a perception I noted after reading a four page article about him, perhaps last year and before the news of his marital breakup. He remains an awesome guitarist in my mind regardless.

What a beautiful thing for Carlos to say about Derek!!

I'm with you, Rob! I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about this tour, even more so than the Eric & Derek lineup.

That Carlos has chosen Derek for his opener is nothing short of brilliant, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing the show. Their styles and sensibilities complement each other very well. As to handing off the keys that God gave him, that is a bit overdramatic. They are two great musicians and that is all, but that is enough.

Lovely. I have always enjoyed how Carlos can appreciate and praise so many other musicians - sounds simple, but not everyone can do it. Or does do it. Carlos also is very into jamming with others, which is equally awesome.

Now here is where it gets interesting for me: will Carlos not make the same mistake that Eric Clapton seems to have made, i.e. can we get a live album or DVD out of this inspired pairing, PLEASE!?!?!?!?!?!

As for EC, I am guessing he assumed that the Crossroads II DVD would be his live release with the Bramhall/Trucks guitar band? It IS a cool DVD but I'd still like to see that band get its own release. I suppose it could still happen.

Very nicely put by Carlos. Derek has always given off this peaceful vibe to me. Even when he is tearing up a solo, he seems completely centered and focused. What a gift.

I would love to hear them do "Eyesight to the Blind" kinda like Clatpon and Santana did from Crossroads II.

Goosebumps???

I'm trying for the Chicago tickets right now. Only thing available on Ticketbastard are the cheap seats. I don't need to be front row but I'm not sitting in the top corner either. I'm sure this will be an unreal concert.

Santana preaches a little during his shows. But I'm never above hearing a positive spiritual message, 'specially in a slightly altered state. As old Robert Nesta said, 'Ya got get high here on earth!

Although Derek doesn't verbalize it, he gets pretty damn spiritual every time he straps that slide on his finger. I know he takes me to a higher place!
