Pandora.

Not a band, a site.

www.pandora.com

Go there and type in the name of an artist you dig.

Then sit back and listen.

Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons kinda
fits in with the Bob Seger and John Melloncamp sound.

Check out his "Concious Contact" CD. I love it!

Thanks for all the suggestions so far I just did this because the groups I'm in online give me better suggestions than my friends who r always touting such bands as My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Death Metal, and Soulja Boy (had a friend say he was the greatest thing of the last year I laughed)

So again thanks

I like all the folks you mentioned, so try these:

Drive-by Truckers - The new skynyrd!
Kevn Kinney - from Drivin' and Cryin' -great solo, too
Whiskeytown - Ryan Adams band before solo stuff
Slobberbone - similar to Ryan Adams
Josh Ritter - Singer songwriter who I prefer solo, but does ok w/band
Todd Snyder - Singer/songwriter and a must-see live

Also, I want to second Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons/Stockholm Syndrome. Jerry's an aquaintance and a rock star who started with a band called Little Women and hasn't let up since. Way better live than on disc!

Mofro is a rootsy band along the lines you mentioned

The current lineup of Phil Lesh & Friends is very rootsy... there are several soundboard recordings of their 2007 concerts on archive.org

If you like Bluegrass-styled acoustic music, I high recommend the Greencards. They aren't a "high lonesome" bluegrass band, more like bluegrass flavored singer-songwriter (with tasty bluegrass instrumentals of course). they are on the Mountain Jam lineup this year.
