Abigail Snail LOVES GH! Apparently so do all of her friends because she had her 11th birthday party this past Saturday which started out as a High School Musical party that turned into a Guitar Hero party instead. It was so much better hearing the Guitar Hero games rather than the High School Musical Sing It game, LOL....
The girls all did really good playing it, even the couple who had not played it before.

Abi got GH III just a few weeks ago and had the easy level beat in the first 30 hours of owning it, so we had to have a reminder talk about the length of time she spends playing it. We just got a PS2 for Christmas and never owned a game system before that so it has been fun!

yankweed - this is great! (bring 'em up right!) Last year I brought my sis and a friend to NYC for a Beacon show to celebrate their 50th b-days. Michelle's (friend) hubby has a band and her kids are all about music of different sorts. Her son D asked us for a concert call if they played Jessica at our show as he is learning how to play that on the sax. (unfortunately they didn't but we were ready with the cell-phone!)

I've played it a number of times, probably all three versions, although I think there are also one or two expansion-type versions as well ("the 80's," for instance).

Let's see, just a few days ago, I jammed through versions of the Scorp's No One Like You and Maiden's Number of the Beast. Lots of fun.

I have no interest in sports games, and once you've identified your favorite martial arts combat game and favorite first-person shooter, I would pretty much think you're done, so Guitar Hero is definitely a fun and creative alternative to the standard video game fare.

I've also had a lot of fun jumping around my front room boxing and playing tennis on a borrowed Wii, so that's a pretty good time, too. If that catches on, it will be the video game kids who are in great shape and the "real world" kids becoming overweight.

we got guitar hero III, which is the cordless one one, for our son for Christmas. I came with Legends Of Rock & we also got him Rock The 80's. He got the original one from a friend too. All of them have some great songs & everyone in the house plays it, although I'll be first to admit that I'm not that good yet! My husband really gets into playing all the old metal tunes that he has always loved. My son will even ask me what songs I want him to play cuz he knows I like many of them! I have said the same thing, so many times, that is awesome that younger kids are getting exposed to some great music because of this game, that they may not otherwise. I personally don't like much of today's music but most kids seem to be right into it. And the funny thing is, is that my kids have always been exposed to, what I, consider great music; the abb & extensions of,of course, the blues, classic & southern rock, the decades etc. & they like a few tunes here & there or have just heard them so much that they know them by heart...but it's acceptable to like the music because it's on guitar hero, go figure! Either way, great way to introduce some great classics to our youth!

I wonder if there's any data available the sale of back-catalog hard rock, classic rock and metal purchased by young people whose first exposure came through the Guitar Hero games.

. . . or if there's any data available on the amount of music that's been pirated thanks to Guitar Hero.

Yankweed,

We must be in parallel states. My 8 year old came running into me from another room yesterday and was overly excited, asking me to come watch him play a video game. Not exactly what I was looking to do at the time but I went with him to see what he was up to and what he was so excited about. He picked up the Playstation Guitar and starts playing Jessica. He knows how I am about The Brothers and was really so proud of himself and excited to do an Allman Brothers song for me. I gave him a big hug when he was done and it's a memory I'll always have. Sometimes little things are the best things.

Be safe,
John

Guitar Hero, the new generation gap closer ? Our neice (19) was over to visit last weekend and couldn't wait to tell me her younger brother's GH had Jessica on it . As she's saying this my goddaughter ( 26 ) who lives with us pipes up that's the song I was named for. That started a whole discussion about ABB and Dickey's instrumentals and all the versions of Jessica from live shows and records we have in the house.

No Guitar Hero for me . I just have my trusty Strat plugged in by the computer. My son really likes Rock Band. He likes all different types of Music including Rap. He also plays piano and has a great singing voice. I love that guy.

Both my kids grew up with the ABB, MTB, and most of the blues greats like BB, Muddy, Albert. They seem to love GA band and Dickey's solo stuff too. We would travel with music all the time and they even would sing along. Alas, they grew up and now listen to many kinds of music but the appreciation is there. I called my daughter this weekend and her
"on-hold" tune was Good Clean Fun....imagine that. Musta done somethin' right.
