Back in 1969 former Animals frontman Eric Burdon began working with a new group. Originally called Nightshift, that band soon changed its name to WAR. Burdon remained with the group for two years, during which they recorded Eric Burdon Declares War and The Black Man's Burdon. Now, on the heels of recent Cream and Led Zeppelin reunions, London also will host a performance marking Burdon's return with the band. The show will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on April 21st with tickets on sale next Thursday. The performance is being billed as a on-off, with no additional touring plans announced.

This would be great! Love Eric Burdon - both with the Animals and WAR. I think the Animals were ahead of their time musically. They played locally around 1965 and were opening band for Herman's Hermits! (sidenote - a friend's dad was a cop and got us into the airfield where their private plane landed so I got to meet EB and Animals and the Hermits and get autographs and pictures taken with them all. Heady stuff for a young girl! )

Not a real big Eric Burdon fan, but before I heard The ABB, War was my favorite band....

I saw Eric Burdon and the Animals and War play the same show (The Sausalito Art Festival) a couple years ago. I was really hoping Eric would join them for "Spill the Wine" but he didn't. The lead singer of War even said if Eric was still around he would have him come up to sing it. Here are some pictures I took from the show if you are interested in taking a look (I have galleries for both Eric and War).

Saw EB/War at the bottom Line in the 70's...oh man.
Check out a little known double album of theirs Black Man's Burdon.
They do a great Paint it Black, which is part of this one whole album side,,concept style.
.... and a somewhat successful song Bareback Riding.
great Band, and a collaboration you never would have dreamed of...right?

The WAR that is currently touring has only 1 original member Lonnie Jordan. Four other original members of "WAR" are now known as The Lowrider Band:

Give it a listen, the heart of WAR clearly lives on....
