when we met, we had same lps from the Dead/Allmans/Dylan/Outlaws....I've noticed amongst lady friends, they don't seem quite so into the music as my guy pals

we're still loving the music

Yes How can you ever ride in the car together and not listen to music you both enjoy

I do think their has to be a compromise, I let her play my ipod every now and then

My wife and I share interests in a few bands but she just isn't into the Allmans or The Dead. But I still love her.

We will be traveling, and if I'm driving, I select the music. I'll stick in a good ABB live show, and about the time Derek starts ripping on some killer slide, I'll hear my wife say, "Can we listen to something else?" It's like a fart during intercourse.

The only band we both like is THE BEATLES. Other than that, she is pop, smooth jazz & anything mellow...while I like ABB, Clapton & most music from the 60's.

The downside...we don't see alot of bands together!!
The upside...I get to go to alot of shows with my buddies!!

When we're in the car as a family...the kids take over...and I really don't get their music!!

Yeah. I'm suing the guy who told me that black beans were an aphrodisiac!

Back to topic: Donna comes from a slightly more refined background than I do. She pretty much taught me how to appreciate Bach, Elgar and Debussy. She also got me interested in jazz - especially be-bop. I got her hooked on the Allman Brother's (including the extended family), Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King and blues stuff in general.

Before we met, she knew about the ABB but for the most part had associated them with all the "rebel flag bands". She now totally gets the Allman Brother's Band and is especially fond of all the "peach buds" that she's become acquainted with over the years.

My wife will tolerate what I listen to. She got hooked on the ABB because of me,
but could care less about the Mule or Derek. Or the Dead for that matter. Or most
of the Jam bands I listen to.

She's more into singer/songwriters and Bryan Adams and soft rock.

Needless to say, long trips are unpleasant listening situations half the time.

Absolutely, we go to concerts together & have a ball. For that, I'm very greatful. I have friends that are very jealous cause they don't have spouses that enjoy their music.

This is a great question. My biggest passion in life is music. I could not have an SO who did not share that passion, have a similar taste in, and an open mind toward music. Most of all they have to love live music. My musical taste is so broad that unless they are only a fan of pop, we'd probably be ok.

I'm blessed, my SO meets all of the above requirements. In fact our first date was an ABB concert. And we feed upon each other. We are constantly intruducing each other to new (and old) artists and seeing lots and lots of live music....new stuff for both of us.

Music is always on, it lulls us to sleep and wakes us in the morning. Neither of us are big tv people and often for sports and nature shows, the tv is mute and the music is still going - we call this "Groovy Vision".

I actually judge the value of old boyfriends by the amount of (quality) music which they have turned me on to!

You don't have to say anything, Lefty. I think it's pretty self explanatory.

my husband & i have a lot of bands & music we are both really into & catch a lot of shows, whenever we can. he is more into heavy metal & alternative music though, where as i am more into classic & psyhcadelic rock & anything 70's but we totally meet at the blues! he does like the abb & some extensions of, mostly due to my influence, but he does tire of it after awhile & complains when i drag him to too many shows in a close span of time. he also makes fun of me sometimes for being so obsessive about the abb & extensions, so for that, he just does not get allmania! getting the stacked logo tattooed on my arm a few years ago really pushed me "over the line" he said! ah well, on the most part though, it's all good!

Hey there sweet family,

Rowland and I absolutely share the same tastes in music, and it's (probably obviously ) a huge part of our lives. Ok, I admit, there's someone we disagree on - Gavin DeGraw. Guess which one of us is into him?

Take care and know that you are loved,

Lana

It had something to do with pop and country but not pop country.

My wife and I are both extremely versatile in our musical tastes, so we love a lot of the same music. In fact mostly we love the same music. We actually met in a Grateful Dead chatroom back in 1995, of all things. However, sometimes we still do get sick of each other's little "kicks". She's seen the ABB A LOT and got really burned out from me playing them so much. So the last few years, I've really layed off of them when with her. But every once in a while I catch her listening to them. The last she was listening to on her own was "Mountain Jam", so she can't be too burned out on them.

My wife thinks that if a song is over 4 minutes it is too long.

My sons were that way until they started listening to DMB. Still hoping for broadened horizons for them.

No, not at all, unfortunately.

If I happen to be listening to somebody like James Taylor, or some classical guitar or something, she won't throw **** at me, but for anything stronger or more exotic than that, it's headphones time.

Car rides can be rough, usually we'll just listen to NPR.

For years, the music thing was something that we did not share. I took Marie to an ABB show at MSG in 1975, and she was not impressed. I thought that was it.

Flash forward 25 years, and needless to say, no one can spend that much time with me and not start to understand (even if only a bit) what music does for me. We went to a few shows, of light jazz stuff, and then I decided it was time for the next level.

After a few Beacon shows, and parties, I thought my wife would like everyone from the GB if she met them. Of course, she was skeptical....people run away and join a cult from the internet, right??

Once she met the GB crowd, she started to enjoy the music and the people. We also go to DB+GS, DTB, STB, Oteil shows, and have had a great time. Not to mention going to Ct. to see Jaimoe and friends. I think I am having as good a time with music as I ever did.

Mitch
