This would be a new kind of list.

Your friends and musical buddies, who have tastes similar to yours, or at least, tastes you respect, like them. The artists you listen to like them, and maybe site them as inspirations or at least, artists they admire. Perhaps they're solidly in the same genre or style as what you do like. The magazines and websites you read rave about them.

However, you just can't get into them. Another way to look at is, artists who, according to all external factors you should like, but don't.

Who are they?

I'll start it off:

John Hammond

I'm not gonna sit here and trash-talk the guy, but I just don't hear it. I've heard maybe 20 songs from 4-5 different albums - studio, live, solo, w/bands, etc. (so I think I've given him a fair shake).

Next?

The Boss.

Every once and awhile, something of his strikes me as interesting, but as a general rule I just don't get it.

totally agreeing with ya on that note...never could understand all the hype for bruce. a few of his tunes are mediocre to me at best, but just not my thing. not really a u2 fan either.

I'll go walk under a rock when I get phinished with my answer here, because I've always felt pretty low about this....despite having been to numerous shows in an attempt to give myself every opportunity to appreciate it....I can appreciate musical talent, I just never felt a connection with it I suppose.

I'd agree with most listed here so far, with the exception of Yes, who, along with Pink Floyd and the ABB are in my "Big Three."

Different strokes, I guess, which is cool.

I like two or three "shredding" songs, maybe once a month or so. As far as the Mule goes . . . I like the Mule like I like Led Zeppelin. I like maybe two or three songs per album really well, but the rest of it kind of blurs together and for me, is unessential.

i have to admit too, that i am really not a huge dylan fan...i'm sure some will agree & yet others will think it's unamerican...and i will say that a few of his tunes I really, really do like...in fact "maggie's farm" is one of my all time favorite songs period...but i just can't sit around listening to him for long as he gets whiney & tedious. on the other hand, i do respect his contribution to music & appreciate his legend status.

totally hate nirvana too!

Cool idea for a thread. For me it was always:

Ramones
The Clash
U2
Genesis (sort of, I don't hate them but I have a buddy that is a freak about them)

Well, the one that I get the most flak for is Stevie Ray Vaughan. Yes, I consider him a good guitarist, and he did know how to throw down an aggressive groove. But, his solos just never went anywhere as far as I am concerned. After several songs, I am yawning.

And, the same goes for his brother, Jimmy. As a rhythm guitarist he is solid and sweet. When Jimmy plays a lead, I cringe at times, and they make me want to pick up my guitar and say, 'Yo Bro, let me throw some lubrication on the gears for a minute or two. You're driving me crazy." As far as knowing a bunch of blues songs, undertanding them, and being a go-to guy for rhythm...absolutely. Playing lead?? With all do respect, his riffs do nothing for me.

REM is another band that does nothing for me. Then again, I like a ton of music that has the majority of folks around me shaking their heads as well. Sammy Davis Jr. singing songs from Guys and Dolls, for instance, or Patti Page singing the music from the Gordon Jenkins play Manhattan Tower, or "An Evening With Uncle Tanous" by Naif Agby and his Lebanese Radio Orchestra from Beirut, Lebanon, or Black Oak Arkansas, for crying out loud. Go figure.

DH
