Is it just me? Am I the only one who is over the Soul Stew Revival?

Don't get me wrong, they are a great band. I love listening to Susan sing, and the horn section is really cool. However, there is a spice that is missing from the plain ol' Derek Trucks Band (I use the term "plain" VERY loosely, of course). This band is not as exciting, from an improvisational standpoint. In fact, they have been rather predictable, every time that I have seen them. I wish it was dTb at Wanee, and I look forward to seeing them open for Santana.

I love both, but prefer DTB over Soul Stew.

there is a debate over this very topic on derek's board.

I assume that they do it so that derek and susan can spend more time together with each other and the kids. If my assumtion is correct this may be the best way for people to see derek when hes not playing with ABB, an Soul Stew is better than no derek. If you disagree move to AZ for a couple of years.

I agree with a_shell. I would rather see the two bands separately than together- for me the ideal was the DTB/STB tour, with separate sets by both bands and some sit-ins both ways.

The genre of muisc of SSR is not as much to my taste as either the DTB or Susan's band. I guess financially SSR makes more sense- fewer musicians and equipment, as well as keeping Derek and Susan together. Susan has some dates scheduled while Derek is ont he road with Santana, but other than those few, I don't see how see can keep a band together if they don't play.

It was a great show when I saw them like this and I'd love to see them do it again, but I really can't say how it compares to Soul Stew as I haven't seen or heard them like that.

It's just another option, like Mule, Dickey. We haven't lost anything. A matter of taste, as always.

I like SSR better than the DTB, but I will say they have too much going on and that they could be tighter. Otherwise I really like it due to Susan's voice in the mix.

I'm over SSR. I'm glad to see the DTB in Savannah, it looks like that may be the only one for awhile. No disrespect to Susan, she's very talented, but the Fusion of the DTB is the best thing out there today IMO and she can only detract.

Its all good folks.
We are so fortunate to have it all.
Go see each band when they are near you.
Life is too short to speculate on this subject.
Just my 2 cents worth. Happy Weekend!!!!

Absnj I just saw those ST shows in April on jambase yesterday. I wonder who her touring/backing band will be for these few shows? Kofi, Rico, Todd, Ron H. or ? ? ?

As for the original thread I'm not over SSR. I like them. I like the dTb the most. And I wish that more time was spent on those two rehearsing/writing/recording/touring by Derek and less time by Derek spent on the ABB touring.

Since DTB will be backing Santana around that time, it would have to be her new band, consisting of Ted Pecchio, Tyler (forget his last name) both formerly of the Codetalkers, Robert Walter on keys, and still Ron Holloway on sax. She did maybe 7 or dates with this band in the fall.

debojenkins is a frequent poster to this site, and not a troll. You don't have to be a troll to prefer the Derek Trucks Band to the Soul Stew Revival. I prefer DTB myself, if only because I get a lot more long guitar solos, and as I may have mentioned before, I like hearing Derek play guitar

If somebody can send me a Soul Stew Revival show that is as mind-blowingly awesome as the DTB show from 10,000 Lakes last year, maybe I'll change my mind.

I'm not griping....but I prefer the straight up dTb over the SSR.

I love both, can certainly understand Derek and Susan wanting to be together....
...but, I agree with Rob - give me more of Derek's guitar sound and those way out there experiments we get with the dTb (like the Torrington show).
