Just got home from Trower's HOB Hollywood gig. I like older rockers. They start at a decent hour and finish at a decent hour. They have to sleep too!

Anyway, it was a totally great show. He and the band were in their zone and rocked the entire time. Some of the tunes he played were Bridge Of Sighs (what a great sex song), Hannah (one of my favorites), Victims Of The Fury, A Little Bit Of Sympathy, and Too Rolling Stoned. All total the show was about 1 hour 20 minutes. They played a 3 song encore.

If you like Strats and a rockin', butt shakin' beat, Robin is it. He's got the chops to still play outdoor stadiums if the band wants to. Hopefully there is a Trower/Police gig at Dodger Stadium. That would be epic plus my wife would have to see him (she loves the Police)!

No doubt Trower is great and I'm looking forward to seeing him in Ridgefield in March. Clapton stinks? C'mon, you couldn't be more wrong on that one.

Actually I have the CD. I guess it's okaaayyyy. There's some other guitarist that on it that is "adequate". Not too bad for a studio musician.

Here's a set list a found from Saturday's show. Like I said, it Rocked!

Day of The Eagle
Bridge of Sighs
Hannah
Step Into The Sun
Another Time Another Place
The Fool And Me
Victims of the Fury
Gonna Be More Suspicious
Alathea
Little Bit Of Sympathy

Why is it that Eric gets dragged into discussions about all other players?

Brief History

Beck is better than Clapton
Hendrix is better than Clapton
Page is better than Clapton
Ace Frehley is better than Clapton (Injected humor)
Eddie Van halen is better than Clapton
SRV is better than Clapton
Yngwie Malmsteen is better than Clapton
Derek Trucks is better than Clapton

and so on.

I am sure I missed many comparisions but it is funny how it always happens and always has. yet people don't feel the need to compare all the others against each other any where near as often.

I guess it means something if people feel the need to compare against him.

I guess Clapton is the the standard by which all other guitar players are judged by.

Any reasonably sane person who watches even 5 minutes of the Clapton Crossroads DVD from 2007 will conclude he still has it, no question about it.

I saw Clapton a year or so ago, and I didn't think he stunk.

He also had a young guitar player in the band who was pretty good.

I didn't smell anything at all.

You win the prize!!

As for everyone else who doesn't think Clapton stinks, Trower stinks. Does that make you feel better now.

I guess it being Super Bowl Sunday everyone is on edge. Probably couldn't sleep last night (I think that's some kind of a Clapton song) just waiting for the game to start. Trower is God!

Typically it is non-musicians who post this kind of comparative crap. Clapton clearly still has it and, much to my delight, so does Trower. Enjoying one flavor of rock music does not require denigrating another.

Stay positive,

Paul

I think Eric recieves a lot of attention because of his longevity. Does he deserve it?...
While I don't believe Clapton to be the "Best", he does not "suck"....and I think he's earned the respect a lot of other famous guitar players show him.

Derek Trucks is better than Clapton

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------

All fair statements...

but so what?

It isn't a competeition. I much prefer Clapton also but there are elements of the others playing that Eric could never do.

Some will prefer other players which is the beauty of music. One person's ABB is another's Candleass.

Poor Robin has spent an entire career with people telling him that he ripped off Hendrix. I guess it is a good shadow to be in.
