We Blew it Billy!

You bet. I own this on VHS, as well as have the Out of Print Soundtrack on CD. I had a poster of this on my wall in college. One of my favorite movies ever. I don't own a bike, but I love to travel the way they do. Throw away the watch, no hotel reservations, and staying off the highway.

I have this on DVD and watch it pretty often.

My favorite scene is the "Trip" to the graveyard
in New Orleans.

Peace
John

that graveyard acid scene is way ahead of its time in filmmaking.. The ending of this movie came as a shock to me and that's what makes this movie such a classic.

For some great inside history of this movie, pick up a copy of Peter Fonda's autobiography "Don't Tell Dad". There is a chapter and a half on the development and making of Easy Rider.

DId anyone see "Ulee's Gold" with Peter Fonda? Very different than Rider, but I loved that too.

quick question about the autobiography, does it say in it that peter and dennis experimented with drugs in the shooting of the movie?

The first time I saw this movie was sophomore year in high school. Our American History teacher, Mike as we called him by his first name, brought it in for us to watch and have a discussion about. One of the best teachers I ever had and he rode his Hog to school everyday that weather permitted. He still teaches too, English and History in a drop out prevention program now.

By the time Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda made Easy Rider, they were more than just "experimenting"! Legend has it that they filmed about 30 takes of the infamous campfire scenes, with 30 real joints!! I read an interview with Jack Nicholson where he said we couldn't remember a thing about that night and was as surprised as anybody to see that scene in the finished movie!

The title song is great, and a good handle, Wasnt Born 2 Follow! Good choice!

Yeah! Great film! Too bad the soundtrack had "The Weight" by Smith instead of The Band due to contractual problems. Find yourself a copy of "Two Lane Blacktop" on VHS if you can. James Taylor, Dennis Wilson, and Warren Oates in a road film that's pretty damned unique. Not at all what you'd expect from the musicians. And Warren? Hell! It's Warren Freakin' Oates!

in nicholson's bio he says that there was opening footage involving a chase scene on motorcycles that was cut out and lost forever. i bet that would've added to an already
bound to be classic movie.
remember that dennis hopper also directed the movie, so if he was tweaking most of the time,no wonder the film came out the way that it did.
fanatastic script by terry southern, who was no stranger to the wild life....

" the man is at the window, the man is at the window..."
plus, who doesn't love the scene with nicholson and the football helmut...great movie all
around.

what about that other Peter Fonda classic "The Trip" - man, that movie was awful. i think you needed to be tripping to enjoy it. I don't know if it came out before or after Easy Rider.......

Fonda's bio does not pull any punches regarding his drug use. He even puts a disclaimer in the front of the book saying he no longer supports the amount that he confesses to in the book. However, I don't recall 30 joints for 30 takes is quite accurate, or mentioned. I don't know about y'all, but if I had 30 joints in that span of time I'd be snoozing.....

A few years ago I read that Hopper and Fonda were going to make a sequel to "Easy Rider". With the way the flick ended, you'd think a sequel would be kind of out of the question. I guess that they must've scrapped the idea. Has anybody heard differently?

I think that Mexico is the only place where you can make a crazy ass movie. It's called pelicula burro loco.

Hey Jeffs! The first movie Hopper did and directed after Easy Rider was "The Last Movie" in 71. Don't know if that is the one you are talking about. Go to www.imdb.com for info and just do a search on Dennis Hopper for all his movies. Click on Easy Rider and Two Lane Blacktop too for more info. Great movie site. I remember going to see Two Lane Blacktop. Everybody was so worked up after seeing it they were peeling out of the parking lot right and left. Cops could've made some money that day.

Went back to look it up (The Last Movie). Amazon says "out of stock" which means you can find it somewhere.
