Very true. An addiction is an addiction I guess. I couldn't have handled coke in my 30s let alone older. Every snort would feel like a heart attack.

In reading the article I couldn't help get the feeling that the OD was intentional. His daughter says that he was very weak and capable of doing very little, so maybe Ike decided since the end seemed so near why not go out with a bang.

Wouldn't he have used Viagra then?

Sorry I couldn't resist.

I do understand he had two women in the room with him.

How sad. Can't imagine doing coke at my age, 55 as it would probably give me a "heart attack", much less doing the sh*t at the age of 76. Actually I had a "grand mal seizure" and ended up in an ICU at the age of 35 from my cocaine usage, and even with that it still took me another year or so before I was able to let that sh*t go. As far as I'm concerned I like my beer and an occasional "herbal enhancement" once in awhile. Anything else, I can do without.

Pathetic, even for a wife beater.

That stuff killed my mother this past october. She was 57. Some family members and I had suspected that she had started doing it again a few years ago, but she would never come clean with us. She had a heart attack while pumping gas. When my grandpa and I picked her car up at the impound yard, we found two glass stems in the car. So she wasn't just snorting it. Then the doctor told me that they found it in her system. Unreal. She had major health problems, so why she would want to compound it with this I don't know. I guess she wanted to die. I wrote some about that experience here...

Still doing coke at 76? Slightly shocking to say the least.

Coke use is rife at the moment in Ireland and escalating. There have been a number of high profile deaths recently which have caught the public's attention.

The government are doing the usual with setting up task forces etc. IMHO it won't make a difference.

Personally I am happy with some herbal relief and a beer.

allgoodthings - sorry to hear that your mother was a victim of this. I've had friends go the very same way and they, too, had long term heart problems but just couldn't give it up.

Re: Ike - I'm not really surprised to hear that cocaine contributed to his death since it sounds like he had a life long battle with the stuff.

Per the late Rick James, "Cocaine. It's a hellluva drug"
