Did you like it better when the Mule opened for Mr. Richie?

I agree to Buck. Unfortunately Bob Richie aka Kid Rock has been the hottest thing in Rock and Country as of late. Those who have been associated with him have gained more fans and renewed their waning popularity. Look at the careers of Sheryl Crow, Hank Jr., Skynyrd, etc. Dickey Betts with the proper guidance could regain more prominence and profitabliity by going Country or by hooking up with someone like Kid Rock. Just looking at what he's is attempting with the upcoming Kid Rock and European Tour, it appears that he may have that much need guidance. I wish him the absolute best and much success. I also wish that the Allman Brothers camp could develop some business foresight that has been lacking since the early to mid nineties. It has been 8 to 9 years since the last studio CD. The popularity of some of the individuals solo projects have provided opportunities that haven't been capitalized on. IMO the tour with Skynyrd was the last good thing that managment has done and even it wasn't capitalized on properly. Good luck Dickey!

What exactly will Dickey's roll be? Opening act? On stage with Kid Rock playing in his band and performing some of his own tunes? Any ideas?

All good observations. I can't believe all of the whining about this. Good for Dickey! He's going to gain great exposure, maybe some younger people discovering the music of the ABB. Believe it or not, MANY people under 30 have NO IDEA who The Allmans are. I'm not a Kid Rock fan, but I think Dickey is making a great move here, and as some have already said, getting more opportunities to play with his son. Its probably going to be a no pressure gig. He's probably getting paid 5x as much as he makes to play bars with his own band. He'll probably be travelling first class and treated like a king. His participation in this tour is a no-brainer IMO.

Good for Dickey. Kid Rock's latest CD is good, believe it or not, and from what I have seen on TV, the band he has put together is capable. Dickey will only add to that. I know that Kid has much respect for all the southern rockers. Always a possibity that it will suck, but I don't think so.

Sorry, but I can't be happy for Mr. Betts who had cancelled previous OBLIGATIONS to do this. No integrity in this weasel manuever. Love his playing, but as a person, he gets harder and harder to like.

The one word that is getting beat to death in the defense of Dickey Betts' decision to Perform with Kid Rock is exposure... Since when does Dickey Betts need "Exposure"?

As Marty Stuart pointed out on the Eddie Stubbs radio show where they were giving tribute to Porter Wagoner a few months ago, there was a time when even Johnny Cash needed some exposure towards the end of his life, and it took an alt label and Rick Rubin to bring him to a younger and newer audience.

Is anyone aware that other musicians have been beating down Mr Betts' door to tour w/ them? I expect Dickey can, w/ about 7 yrs of solo touring under his belt, run the numbers on his take from another solo tour versus going out w/ Kid Rock. Nothing wrong w/ him going for a bigger chunk of change.

After 7 years w/ GS, maybe musician Betts will find additional inspiration from doing somethig a little different for a change. I saw him w/ Phil & Friends in Atlanta in 06, and he was great. I saw him w/ GS in 07 and he was not nearly so good. A change might do him some good creatively.

And I see what you're saying Goldtopper, that one should honor his commitments. But as far as I can tell, the shows were rescheduled, not cancelled. A two or three month delay to see him won't kill anyone.

he could tour with Phil and phriends, m.o.e., widespread, ronnie earl, etc to
name a few. why, besides the money, would he choose kid rock? i posted earlier
that recently dickey caught a moe show and was wearing a moe shirt on nye. it was
reported that he said after seeing moe play, " that's what i need to be doing". i'm confused and disapointed but wish dickey well. he could do so much better.

He doesn't need exposure, or money. He was invited to go play in the band and he accepted the invite. Kid Rock is part of the extended family, it is as simple and as complicated as that. Dickey just plays because he wants to PLAY. No other reason behind it. He wants to play, he has to play, it is who he is.

As for obligations, another word being thrown around, tour was set to start earlier than usual, now it is just back on track to the usual starting time. All shows have been rescheduled, plus our friends across the globe are getting the bonus tour.

I don't know about Dickey and Kid but Kid teamed up with Bob Seger on Seger's last album. Real Mean Bottle is a good and rowdy rocker..just sayin.

My curiosity just might get me to the Kansas City show, its early in the tour and it would be interesting to see how it all progresses as time goes on.

We can all throw this around and put different
spins on it. It is what it is. I will not be going to see
KR but anyone that wishes to do so, you have that right.
Call me old school, but I prefer DB&GS.
But I won't put the tour down, it just is not my desire to see
Dickey with KR.

Hey Im from the Detroit area and Im considerably younger than the average bros fan (im 24). But when I was in 6th grade my math/english teacher Mr. Ragland, told us stories about his crazy, white-boy rapping godson who called himself Kid Rock. Four years later he played at Woodstock 99, and has sold almost 23 million records. Some of his stuff is pretty bad, but some of it is pretty damn good too. He represents Detroit like no other and everyone here loves him, I saw him sing Sweet Home Alabama with Skynyrd and Real Mean Bottle with Bob Seger in the past year and it was awesome.

Did anyone answer the question about him opening with Great Southern, or is he playing Kid Rock songs with a few Allman Bros/other artist covers?
