Next up on the raffle block for the O'Brien family is an original near mint condition Lynyrd Skynyrd Street Surivors album with the flame cover lovingly offered up by Bruce (fanfrom-71)!
Street Survivors is the fifth studio album by southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd released in October 1977). Three days after the album's release, on October 20, 1977, the band's chartered airplane crashed in route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, killing the pilot and some band members, including lead singer and songwriter Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist/singer/songwriter Steve Gaines, and severely injuring most who survived the crash.
Perhaps partially as a result of the attention garnered by the tragedy, the album and the lead single "What's Your Name" did quite well on the charts. After an extensive recovery process, the surviving original band members ultimately decided to disband Lynyrd Skynyrd. In the early 1980's, two derivative bands, The Rossington-Collins Band and the Allen Collins Band, rose from the figurative ashes of this rock n roll disaster to achieve moderate and minimal success, respectively.
The original pressing of the cover of Street Survivors had a photograph of the band standing in flames. Eerily, in the original cover, Gaines' eyes were closed and his head appears to be surrounded by flames. The cover was changed to an alternate photo with an all-black background in respect of the deceased. Thirty years later, the original "flames" cover was restored, while the alternate cover serves as the back of the case.

Y'all know the drill! I got room for 20 people on this one! $20 gets you a place and each additional chance for this awesome collector's item is $10. All checks/money orders need to be in by February 1 and we're gonna do this thing February 2. Please make your checks and/or money orders out to Denise O'Brien and send them on to me:

Being new to this forum, I'm not completely sure how the raffle works when it comes to checks - would they be cashed upon receipt or would they be presented to the family on or after the February 1st date? I would love to have a chance at this one, but teachers around here aren't paid from Dec. 20 until Jan. 31, that's a long month! Thanks!

Good question. The checks will be sent directly on to the family. ____________________

Does the album include the origonal tour page? It lists all of the cities on that tour. If so, are you offering that as part of the raffle? ____________________ "There's only two kinds of music...The Blues and Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah"- Townes Van Zandt

Greggswoman, I will send to the winner, if they want it, the LAST concert video and LAST known recorded show...New Jersey, July.
The recording and video are not the best, but the best we have. Nothing has popped up that I know of these 30 years. It is fantastic to see the band perform songs off of the SS album! ____________________ "There's only two kinds of music...The Blues and Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah"- Townes Van Zandt

Well Mitzi,I guess this has gone over like a led ballon.I thought since vinyl is making a comeback and this was a rare album,PLUS it was for a great cause, there would be interest in it.I could see if it was the current incarnation of the band, but this album has the GOOD band!I don't know.Maybe it's not jazzy enough,or has enough Zeppelin covers!! ____________________ Well 30 years of heart and soul, lord we took it further than rock and roll.
