What a way to start off the New Year, in Ripley England at a small Club.

Clapton led an all star band with Gary Brooker on keyboards, Andy Fairwether Low
on guitar, Dave Bronze on bass, Henry Spinetti on drums, Chris Stainton keyboards,
with three very special guests- Joe Walsh, Ringo and Pete Townsend.

What a night.. Some of the Highlights since they were so many:
Knock on Wood, Reconsider Baby, Gin House, Hoochie Coochie Man,
Rocky Mountain Way, Cocaine and a Whiter Shade of Pale to name just a few.

One of the best new years eve's I ever had, no hang over because there
was no alcohol and a show that is still hard to describe, it was that good.!!!!

Happy New Year.

Sweet!!!

What's up with Clapton?

Cream, Derek & Dominoes, and now Blind Faith all in last couple of years?
Crossroads Guitar Festivals, jamming with everyone and anyone.

Wow, something lit a fire up his a**

Now if he only can bring that fire to the studio, with Derek of course.

Sorry it was one of those events by invitation only, so not really open to the general public. I was very fortunate to be there!!!!

There were no cameras, no recording devices. Some people were trying to use their cell phones, but most of the people adhered to EC’s wishes.

This was EC having fun with some of his mates, which in this case was a magical
experience.

Please tell us somebody sneaked a recorder in here. Looks like it would be tough at such a small venue though.

I seem to recall in Clapton's autobiography, that they have a sober new year's eve party every year for all those who cannot or won't drink. Been doing it for a while and it is mostly for fun. They just want to relax and have a good time playing for themselves and friends.

Hat's off to 'em.

Very tough, but EC has done a number of these shows over the years and there is a bootleg or too, however the quality isn't the best

Gary Brooker- who sang the original with Procul Harum,
and did an incredible version with Clapton on Guitar.

At this point in EC's life, what has he got to prove? I see all of his reunion gigs with Cream and the others as restoring relationships that may have been bruised and battered due to youthful egos, and now everyone is older and wiser, and they are getting together to play music for the joy and love of playing...and becoming friends again.

Very well said. He's having fun and doing it for the music, and not the money.

There will be more Winwood/Clapton collaborations, since they are having a blast playing again, and time helps heal all the wounds.

Look for further dates later in year over seas.

Who knows, maybe a “live” record as well, if the suits buy in on it.

Live record, is that maybe the last tour with Derek?

RAH dates might happen 09, but you never know with Clapton.

He was supposed to take off this year and spend time with Family, and tour 09,
but the Winwood/Blind Faith collaboration was so much fun at the Crossroads Concert,
only time will tell what direction Eric goes.

After George Harrison and Billy Preston's deaths, which touched him deeply, EC wants
to tie up all his lose ends.

Cream would still be going on, if the fun was there, but alas the “old demons surfaced”
and EC had enough. So we'll see how many more shows Clapton/Winwood do.

Me thinks we'll see more after next month in NY, as they head further East,
can we say samurai end of year!

What the heck IS Up with no live lbum from the Clapton/ Trucks tour? I mean, EC has put out live stuff fairly regularly from tours over the past decade or so, why not this one?

This is from my other Clapton Thread, when some one else asked the same question.

Hope this helps.

Any possibility of a DVD for this &/or the Clapton/Truks tour?thanks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----

Word is the suits, (Record Company), didn't want it, instead put enormous pressure on Clapton to go with Greatest Hits and Book Combo, then Crossroads DVD.

DVD was finished before the book, and included most of San Diego Show with JJ Cale. It was great and really featured Derek.

Still possibility of later in year, and of course the Winwood/Clapton shows are being recorded, so you never know if that might show up instead.

Clapton also recorded his 04 tour featuring Billy Preston and his old band, and of course the memorable jams with Robert Randolph. Lots of live material so there should be something later in year, including more shows from Steve and Eric.
