Really enjoyed Warrens singing and playing tonight. Such a pleasure to see someone having such a blast on stage. Matt was just awesome.
Last years opening night really blew me away so as good it was tonight at times, the`06 opening still holds a special place for me with Hide Your Love Away & Helter Skelter blowing the roof off the Beacon. 30 Days In the Hole & I Don't Need No Doctor was a nice surprise. Keller made us miss Los Lobos & NMAS as opening acts. We went back into the Lobby till Mule time

Security was mentioned ... pat downs, searching bags, those metal detector wands ( not sure what they are actually called ) but once the show began I didn't see security in the aisles where we were in the Orch. Pretty much Beacon as usual. No one bothered for taking pictures from small cameras either

After 30 Days was a chorus of I Don't Need No Doctor.

Great show, sucky venue. Stepping on the grass and everything all night.

For What It's Worth:.A big thumbs down for Dolan and his security team. They were up front at the rail all night. Better a fan be there, especially some cute chica. The guy just plopped his ass at the rail ALLLL second set. He should have kept on moving up and down like he did first set. I was very unhappy. I don't know if someone's cigarettes attracted the staff but man - As far as I am concerned NYC officially has a venue problem.

The show was fantastic. Warren was singing wonderfully. Best version of Have Mercy on the Criminal ever (so far). The band is tight. Excellent & groovy Tomorrow Never Knows. Place was close to sold out and everybody was loving the band. Everyone was especially loving Mr. Haynes. :-)

Oh and How Many More Years> Wang Dang Doodle> How Many More Years had a Higher Ground tease by Danny.

Great start to the NYE run. I got to meet some cool peeps and Warren was on fire right from the get go. Angela, you hit it right on the head, the Dolan Stormtroopers are a bunch of a$$holes. The security were going up and down the ailses and telling people with ailse seats not to put their foot into the ailse. I can see keeping people without ailse seats out of the ailses, but people with ailse seats should have the right to a little extra room which ends up giving everyone in that row just a tiny bit more room to groove. It is most definetly not the same old Beacon. Me and my buddy don't even bother bringing any mother nature any more. It's just not worth the risk. Anyway the music was just killer last night and I'm sure we're in for more treats tomorrow. I hope it's a little less humid tomorrow as it was pretty hot in the orch last night. It usually only gets hot like that under the overhang and in loge. Time to rest up for part two of the Winter Of Love. Peace!!!

Right back at you Angelemerald. I saw you rocking out front and center, was that a fun show or what? It will be hard for them to match that tonight, but every time I say that they end up blowing me away the next night anyway. If they can match tonight's energy for all seven sets I'm gonna need some recuperation time. LOL! See you tonight.

"little girl you know its true"?

might that be the milli vanilli song..."girl you know its true, ooh ooh ooh i love yoouu"

that'd be pretty wild if it was.

sorry meant matt, was late when i posted.

am very surprised about number of comments regarding "lousy " venue. The security was terrible and now that MSG is in charge, that is a fact, however, dont bash the Beacon. Still great accoustics, great views and the ease to grab a beer is great.

Interesting to note what several said about Warren enjoying himself on stage..I noticed the same thing in October at the Tower in PA. Catching the 12:30 train into NYC, looking forward to seeing you folks and the show tonight.

I thought this show had one of the most interesting setlists I have ever experienced at a Mule show. Virtually all of their most popular material remains "in the barn", which I thought led to the show being a little uneven. Maybe a little too much Reggae, no real need for "Lively Up" when we had "Unring" in the second set. Would have liked to have heard "Silent Scream" or something more "Mule-like" in place of "Lively". Great surprise to hear Have Mercy on the Criminal, the first Elton John cover I believe they have done. "Tomorrow Never Knows" was real spacy, and the transition to a hard "Streamline" was perfect. "Long Distance Call" also rocked. The search at the gate was comprehensive, but I don't think they were taking anything away. Inside, security was a little tighter, but still very liberal. The guy next to me lit up right next to the security guard, and all his did was tell him to "put that away". The band absolutely cranked, and everything they played was high energy, and first rate. Looking forward to a great show tonight. Good to see Angela, Sixty 8, Deb and Pete, Cyber Ron and Russell (out of retirement) and many other familiar and friendly faces.

Great show last night. I thought the sound was amazing. I really like Wang Dang Doodle and the 30 Days in the Hole encore was perfectly rockin. I usually don't like Unring that Bell but it was very cool last night. Especially with that Shakedown tease in there. Overall a great night of music.

Macon - I believe the Mule also has covered Elton John's Madman across the Water. I think it was back in the New School of the Mule era when David Schools played bass after Woody died. 2001 or so. (not trying to be a know it all wise ass or anything ) I just remembered hearing it at Roseland. I don't know if it was in rotation or just a one time thing.

Great night of music. I loved He Ain't Give You None. Warren and Keller sounded killer on that. The Mule's concert format has always reminded me of the Jerry Garcia Band in a way. Play some of your own **** and then cover a pack of great tunes. They also both seem to love to cover Van Morrison. She Said She Said and Tomorrow Never Knows was also fantastic. God, now that I keep looking at the set list, that really was a fantastic rockin' show.

Incidentally, Matt (my friends call me Matt, you can call me Mitch) Abts, must be absolutely exhausted after a night of playing. I always forget how much of a beast he is. I am surprised Zeppelin didn't pick him to play with them. ;-)

Anybody know what time Mule came on? Also what time was it over? I think the Beacon has a curfew so the union won't incur overtime? Just trying to get my trains from the island together. Looking foward to the show. Thanks to a poster from this board who posted a "heads up", I went to ticketmonster and scored row "A' Lodge. Thanks .
