Yesterday morning I was taking my 4-year-old daughter Maddy to school. At about 6:50am, we were traveling down the same street we take to school everyday, about six blocks away from our house.

A woman drove straight through a stop sign coming off a side street (I was on a main thoroughfare) and hit us smack dab in the middle of the passenger side door. She never put on her brakes and there were no skid marks. The impact flipped our car over on its roof and the car slid across the oncoming lane of traffic and was stopped by the curb. I was hanging upside down, unbuckled my seat belt, got to a crawling position and heard my daughter screaming (a great sound in that situation). She was hanging upside down in her car seat. I released her 5-point harness and we crawled out the back window as the glass was gone.

She has a small mouse above her right eye and a bruise on her right cheek. I have a pretty deep gash in my right leg, a deep bruise on my right hand and one stitch on my left hand. Plenty of other muscles are sore too, but, we are alive and breathing.

I still don't know anything about the woman that hit us, other than they took her to the hospital. I don't even know yet if she was insured.

I DO know that life can change in one second, in one instant. You truly never, never know. I saw those headlights coming towards our car and there was nothing I could do.

Live every day as if it were your last.

Love everyone in your life every day, and don't ever let a day go by that you don't tell the people around you that you love them.

Peace and love to all

Jerry

Wow what a story. I am glad you are as OK as you can be after all that. I hope your daughter will be OK and not be afraid of going in a car.

Amen to you saying I love you to your love ones every day. I was doing that before 9/11, but my daughter and I say it after every time we see or speak to one another even more since that day.

We are only traveling on this road of life, where it takes us and for how long, well that is up for debate. We can try to make the most of it with our loved ones and friends every day.

I will include you and your daughter in my "wellness" candle on Sunday.

Get well soon and peace to you both. Know that your brothers and sisters here feel your pain. Be well Jerry.

Jim

That is very incredible. I'm glad you and your daughter are going to be OK. Your message is well recieved. I hope you recover quickly from both the physical and mental wounds incurred from your accident. Let's hope the person that hit you just made a mistake and wasn't under the influence of anything.

Wow Jerry that is incredible, glad you and your daughter are ok...my favorite quote from Scrooge, helps to keep things in perspective:

There is never enough time to do or say all the things that we would wish. The thing is to try to do as much as you can in the time that you have. Remember Scrooge, time is short, and suddenly, you're not here any more.

Jerry - so glad you and your daughter made it through this ordeal with nothing more than some sore muscles and minor injuries! Your guardian angel was watching over you for sure! Thanks for the reminder - people need to share their love openly and frequently.

How very frightening on so many levels.... Thank God you and your daughter were able to walk away with just the few injuries that you have.... and yes, life can change in one split second... good or bad..... I think at one time or other, as we age.. we can all look back at a moment or two in our own lives that could have gone "the Other Way".... scary..... and lots to be Thankful for...

I'm so sorry that happened! I know it's scary when something like that happens and your child is involved. I'm glad you 2 are alright, though.
Healing vibes going out to both of you.

What a story-in the blink of an eye, everything can be gone.

Bless you, Bhawk. Hope all goes well.

Glad everyone is ok. I for one will be glad to see holiday traffic subside, people have been driving terribly these last few weeks. I'd bet even money the woman was DWC, driving while chatting. A good lesson for us all to drive as if our lives depend on it, and not try to multitask behind the wheel.

I'm so glad you both were not hurt anymore than you are. Although from a mental point, it can still mess with your mind. I know both of you were very scared, I can only imagine how scared your poor daughter was. You both are blessed to still be here.

People driving like idiots and it just seems to get worse and worse.

I was driving my folks to my Daughters for Christmas. Some idiot was driving over 90mph on the interstate, swapping lanes. He pulled over on this older couple and almost caused them to hit the guard rail...on Christmas of all days. It's like they have their own agenda and to hell with everyone else on the highway.

God Bless both of you, Brother. I'm so glad it was not any worse.

Ah, what a fine ending to that story, albeit with bumps, bruises and a few abrasions and cuts....... God Bless...... Seat belts YES! My License plate says "BUCKL IT"

I read the papers, and the avoidable crazy crashes are astounding.... people driving with their head in the Twilight Zone....... Some young 20's young men here on Christmas Eve closed the bar, took the toolie back woods road home, got lost and drove off a cliff hundreds of feet on an old railroad right of way....... driver thrown and vehicle landed on him. There are parents out of their mind with grief right now.......

But like yours, so many are sober, light of day, bizarre ones....... anyhow, so happy for you...

I read about what happened to you....and what didn't.....and I wanted to throw up. I'm so glad you both are safe.....but for the next few days be nice to yourself....once the adrenelin wears off the 'what ifs' will set in. I'm going to hug my grandson sitting next to me now and tell him again how much I love him.

I too got a knot in my stomach reading your post.

Life can change or end so unexpectedly. Here one second and could be gone the next - it is very sobering to think about. We just have to live smart and control what we can control.

I'm so very glad that you and your daughter were not seriously injured or worse.
