Shady Grove by Garcia and Grisman? If there is, I'd love to hear it....

I like their first one, the pink and black one, most.

I, however, do think there is a better acoustic album: Bela Fleck's Drive is probably my favorite. But the more I think about it, there are way too many great acoustic albums and acts out there to say which is the best.

No list would be complete without Mariah Carry Unplugged

"Sketches of Satie"...Steve Hackett (ex original Genesis) on acoustic guitar, and brother John Hackett on flute...sublime.

"Primal Magic" by Strunz and Farah

"Two For the Road"
-Larry Coryell and Steve Kahn

I don't know if it's better or not. It's in the ears of the beholder.

one of my acoustic favourites is ABB 06/11/92. also everything from Paul & Fred, the 2 Little Feat guitareros
and here comes something very special :

Jukka Tolonen & Coste Apetrea : Blue Rain, C 1985 on Sonet Records

Jukka Tolonen is from Finland, Coste Apetrea is from Greece. They played as an acoustic guitar duo. Very nice jazzy ballads.

Wow, Bela's "Drive" and Garcia and GRisman, I about fell out of my chair. Now we're getting somewhere.

Tony Rice--" Manzanita." Anybody that appreciates the best guitar work that one can find will love it.

Jerry Douglas--" Lookout For Hope," with guests James Taylor, Sam Bush, Maura O'Connell, and Chris Thile from Nickel Creek, and Trey Anastazio from Phish, it rocks.

Larry Sparks--" John Deere Tractor", One of the best Americana, roots music songs in history.

Ricky Simpkins-" Don't Fret It", the song, "OLd Tree" is as good a song about nature as there is.

" Old and In The Way"--Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements, Midnight,Moonlight!

Anything by Bill Monroe from 1945 to 1949 when he had Chubby Wise, Earl Scruggs, and Lester Flatt in the band. Smokin' and powerful.

Doc Watson and David Holt---" Legacy", Doc's life story with all the old songs he learned as a kid plus his best ones like "Tennessee Stud". Doc's story of the 'Cat Skin Banjo' is a crackup;

quote:
" In 1934 Dad made me a little home-made banjo. It had a cat skin head on it. First he put a groundhog skin head on it but it was too thick, it didn't work good. He was splittin' stove wood and I was gettin' me a big arm full to take in the house and put in the wood box for Mama. And my brother came up through the yard with a sack and a bucket of water in the other hand and Daddy said, 'What you got in that sack?' He said, 'I got granny's poor old cat that's got too old to live any longer and she wants me to put it out of it's misery, and I told her I coudn't do it, but she said, 'Son, I'll give you fifty cents if you do it, I ain't got the heart.'' It couldn't see, it couldn't eat, so Dad thought about it for a minute and said, 'I seen a J. Rodgers advertisement in Sears-Roebuck for a banjo head, if you boys will skin that thing I'll make you a banjo head out of it.' Well, we both dreaded it but Lenny said, 'Well,I bet that would sound good. I bet it would be as clear as you could read a paper through it when Daddy got done with it.' Between Daddy and Lenny they got that thing right, with all the hair off of it, and it was just about clear. Oh, man, it had a beautiful sound."

John Hartford-- " Steam Powered Aereo-Plain"-- Fun, strange, and great. With Norman Blake, Tut Taylor, Randy Scruggs, and Vassar Clements, it is hard to beat. I was lucky enough to get to know John a little before he died;

Buddy Guy and Junior Wells . . . "alone and acoustic" usually gets a lot of nods . . . but not from me. It bores me to tears, hah! ( I guess I nod every time I hear it, now that I think of it)

I'm just now starting to explore Garcia and Grisman. Man, that's some incredible music.

Hey, how about a hidden B&P - Garcia and Grisman, Warfield Theater, 12/8/91. First three to respond here and send me a PM. 2 discs. (Thanks to bhs72 for this one).

Set 1 - Shady Grove, Sittin' In Limbo, Rosa Lee McFall, So What, I Ain't Never Seen Nobody Like You, The Thrill Is Gone, Dawg's Waltz, Wind and Rain, Arabia

Set 2 - Red Rocking Chair+, Trouble In Mind+, Take Me Back+*, Walking Boss+, Jack-A-Roe, Friend Of The Devil, Louis Collins, Grateful Dawg, Russian Lullaby, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, E: Ripple

How about The Collectors #1 by Dickey Betts & Great Southern? That's one hell of an album and maybe Dickey's best solo album, right on par with Highway Call.

How about The Collector's Vol 1 By Dickey.

Also, Jukka Tolenen, that's a name I haven't heard in a long, long while.
I have a 33 1/3 LP of his from the seventies. I would drag it out and give it a spin if I still had my turntable hooked up.
