Many say Duane and Dickey, some Eric and Duane, Toy and George,
Rossington and Collins, .....what say you?

I'd be inclined to agree, and I'm not a guy that ranks everything Allman in the top slot of every opinion poll. There are plenty of guitarists I like better than Duane and/or Dickey in different styles and contexts, but for two guys playing together, working off each other, dancing around each other's improvisational themes, then Duane and Dickey will top my list.

I'm also quite fond of Trucks and Herring.

There a lot of bands with two good, even great guitarists, who will each take a great solo in a song, or alternate solos, or whatever, but to me the real test is when they're both playing lead at the same time. Does it clash? Simply double, harmonize, or maybe call and respond? That's all good (except for the clashing part), but when two lead players can play at the same time and it works, then that's something. Johnny and Rick's Good Morning Little Schoolgirl from And, Live has always been a great example of this, IMO.

All combos worked for me

Brent
All the ones you listed are among my favorites, but Bros. Dickey and Duane take the cake. of the others you mentioned, Duane and Clapton were a brief shining moment, and based on the one live show we have not as good as the ABB. Toy and George lose points because George was primarily a rhythm player, alabeit an exceptional one. Rossington and Collins (and King and Gaines) were amazing, but stylisticlly limited.

Of course I'd have to throw in Warren and Derek and Derek and Jimmy to flesh it out. now of non ABB related guitarists
Santana and Schon in the original Santana were pretty impressive. When Stills and Young were on-not an everynight occurance they could burn with the best. Oh, and while we're at it, Harrison and Clapton were pretty special on All Things Must Pass

Yall all know I am for Duane and Dickey. Hard to imagine anyone even coming close to that. I hope I'm around if someone ever does...
Lots of great combos throughout history.....but only one Duane/Dickey.

Kidding aside, doesn't this seem like a question we all know the answer to? Duane and Dickey will most likely never be touched at the top of this list.

However, Stan Marsh and Kyle Broflovski came damn close in the Guitar Hero episode. Still, they were no Duane and Dickey.

Sorry dude, but considering the site we all post on here, what a ridicolous question. Did you think someone would leave out Duane & Dickey?
This reminds me of the reporter that asks the Coach of a Pro Football team..

"Hey Coach!... do you think you can win today"?

Just once.... I'd love to hear that Coach reply:

"No Bob... We're gonna get our a**es Kicked today, I don't even know why we're gonna play this game"

69-71 ABB is my favorite music in the world BUT Love Devotion Surrender makes a pretty damn compelling case for McLaughlin/Santana. Especially if you've heard the legendary live show from that tour (Chicago, 9-73) it's tough to argue that those two, at that time, were the most mind-blowing guitar duo ever.

Yeah, I kinda figured...but there are some interesting combos and I thought it would be interesting to see the variety...maybe I should have asked, "who 'other than' Duane and Dickey' would you consider to be the best duo ever? I am surprised that ore people have not mentioned Duane and Eric. I figure them to be as close to D & D as possible in music.

Dickey and Duane because they invented the magic, but Dickey and Warren would be a close second because they introduced me to that magic.

For me..... the guitar language between Duane and Dickey , Berry..... was nothing less than musically erotica.... musically orgasmic......outstanding in every way...
