Hello Folks!

Anyone else in Hilo?! The stagelist makes no mention or reference to the Rico Ghetto Rap in the middle of For My Brother(or even For My Brother for that matter)...Obviously, I was'nt paying close enough attention to the order of the tunes that night so I'm not sure where it fits into the show. (Apparently I must have been "over-served" by the fine staff at the Palace - Oh, and Many Thanks to Sierra Nevada Brewing too for their contribution to a splendid eve'nin in the Big Island's art district.)

Thanks to Rico's boiserous (almost vociferous) rant (of sorts) ...

Derek and Todd had the "perma-grin" plastered all over their mugs for a good, solid five minutes or more after returning to the For My Brother from Rico's rap.

Overall, the show was one not easily forgotten - if you like to see the Guys playing offa' the cuff - leaning exhuberantly over and occassionaly dipping into thecauldren of all that is avant-garde... a truly fun, lighthearted evening teeming with capricious shifts in leadership and super-tasty 'lil interludes to keep the show poppin' along - then you'd have truly appreciated this one. (Others might argue that this show comprised all that is wrong with the dTb these days) Da^^n if this one did'nt jam!

Anyways, unless I have a "moment of clarity", or unless one of you comes forward....I fear we may never know the true order of the goings-ons that was Hilo 2007.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration Everyone ! See You'uns in Florida, else Hotlanta!

Oh, and no post would be complete without dropping this in there - ANYONE HOLDING A COPY OF MARCH 31 2006 - Do a brother (...all your Brothers&Sisters) A FAVOR AND UPLOAD IT to the tree or ia....somewhere!!! Make it a Very Merry Christmas for all!!!

Thanks again

You need to change your name to WannaBeDTBsetlists you loser. What makes you think dTbSetlists knows everything? No disrespect to dTbsetlists, (in the words of Brando to Sheen in Apocolypse Now) but he is "just an errand boy sent by grocery clerks to collect a debt." He can't be everywhere all the time, and I KNOW he was'nt in Hawaii so ease up before you jump to conclusions. I simply wanted to know the ACTUAL SONGS PLAYED and we STILL DON'T KNOW and your shananagans are'nt helping the matter.

OH, AND YOUR POST MAKES ONE SINGLE REPLY - how 'bout 'dem apples!?

The Derek Trucks Band have played both "The World Is A Ghetto" by War, as well as Donny Hathaway's "In The Ghetto," and Yonrico used to sing both of them. It is at leaast possible that Rico slipped one of those tunes, or something like it, into "For My Brother."

If you don't care what carolina_blue says, that's fine, but that doesn't mean nobody else is. I've disagreed with him in the past, but he always seems to be giving his genuine opinion.

As he points out, neither of us was at the shows in Hawaii, so how do we know? DTBsetlists does a great job, but they would be the first to admit they have been wrong before, especially when the band deviates from the written setlist, which does happen.

For the record it was the In The Ghetto and NOT The World is a Ghetto (I guess....). I've heard it before but never realized there were so many verses/stanzas or chorus' or whatever. I'm certain several of them must have been impromptu on Rico's behalf or else I don't think the guys would have grinned ear-to-ear for so long afterwards.

I know I had'nt grinned like that since the Green w/Gold plaid and Blue w/Silver plaid blotter days of GD Spring Tour '89. Scratch that - 'since the Warlocks show 10/9 in Hampton.

Either way brah - I realize few here have an interest in what a newbie with next to no stars beside their name has to say. So, just keep that in mind when you're charming your way around this board making new friends with next to no stars yourself.

Good Luck in your endeavors to contribute to this board

The Donny Hathaway tune is "The Ghetto" and the only lyrics are...."the ghetto" repeated over and over. Its just a great repetitive groove thing.
And Wannabe...why are you such a d!ckhead?

So, I'm stumped. I've never heard so many verses - kinda' reminded me of any given Robert Zimmerman song. I'm telling you, Dylans got nothing on Yonrico in Hilo.

Someone cough up a recording - I'll prove it!!

They play The Ghetto in For My Brother quite often. They are basically the same song with different lyrics and a key change for soloing. The one thing that "makes" The Ghetto is a really distinct bassline and Todd throws that in and the rest of the band follows suit for a few bars and it's back into FMB.
