Momma Hill of the famous Hill and Hudson, the H and H as most people know it, best eating place in the my world. Passed away last night. Sister Judy just called and told me. One thing for sure she went knowing she was loved. I know I loved her. I will miss my hugs and her saying hey Darling. She worked hard all her life. She knew life and took what it had to offer. Hard time and good times she was MOMMA HILL. Thirty-eight years I knew her and never saw her mad.

made my first visit there last year and was fortunate enough to meet, and have my pic taken with, both mamma's. Great food and fantastic southern hospitality.
R.I.P. Mamma Hill.

Who was Mama Hill, whom you all speak so highly of? I've heard her mentioned often in the threads here, never quite understood her legacy or connection. Thanks.

dancingrhonda,

Mama Hill (alongside Mama Louise) worked at the H & H Resturant down in Macon, Ga. The early Allman Brothers Band would have probably starved to death if hadn't been for the cooking and love these two women showed them back when they were starting out and didn't have much money. Mama Louise and Mama Hill ALWAYS made sure "the boys got fed".

btw this if from Macon.com

quote:
H&H restaurant owner dies of natural causes
By Liz Fabian - lfabian@macontel.com

Inez Hill, 92, died early this morning of natural causes at The Medical Center of Central Georgia, said Bibb County coroner Leon Jones.

Hill, and her sister "Mama Louise" Hudson, ran the landmark eatery that was recently featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show last month.

Winfrey praised the sisters for providing comfort and nourishment to so many people over the years.

"She was 92 years old and still working," Jones said.

The home-cooked vittles drew the Allman Brothers band members to the Cotton Avenue restaurant and helped make H&H famous.
