It was alright.

More an overview of Levon and Larry Campbell though.

Thanks, Effie! Great article...DirtFarmer sounds like it's going to be a good folk CD. Also sounds like they might have got a start on next recording while making this.
Hope DFC sees this.

I never really got into The Band, but I caught an interview on NPR with Levon Helm about the album. It was very enjoyable to listen to him speak about his recovery from vocal chord cancer, and the music wasn't half bad either.

From Amazon

quote:
On Dirt Farmer, Helm's pays tribute to his family, singing traditional songs that he learned growing up in rural Arkansas. He also covers songs by Steve Earle and J.B. Lenoir; full of Dobros, mandolins and acoustic guitars, the album resonates deeply, honoring Levon's roots.

FYI regarding DIRTFARMER:

Heard on the radio this morning that as a bonus to this purchase, Levon is donating $1 from each CD sold during December to charity; half to the Imus Ranch for Kids With Cancer and half to The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (where he was treated - as was my sister).

So we all like to give to those less fortunate than us on this site - this info convinced me to make sure I purchase this CD in the month of December.

Just picked this up - it is very good.

I love rural Americana, music of the country, and music of the West . . . before somebody went and manufactured C & W out of those traditions.

I love Dirt Farmer and was fortunate to see Levon's show in Atlanta in April. Very enjoyable show.
