I have wondered for sometime now why there has been no official Duane DVD compilation. Would there be any way to fix Gregg's mic problem on the Fillmore show from 9/23/70 and release that footage? I know there can't be a lot of clips to choose from but I'm sure they could do a nice DVD maybe with some rememberances from friends and artists that knew him aside from the Brothers. Are the legalities surrounding that treasure trove of unreleased items keeping this from happening as well?

What do you think?

I believe that the vocal problem in 9/23/70 was the fault of the Fillmore East crew, and therefore cannot be fixed. When they aired the special on PBS in 1971, there was no sign of the Allmans anywhere in the program. My theory is that the vocal problem forced the producers to forego their segment. Luckily the ABB segment is complete and available in relatively good quality on bootleg dvd-r.

Anything with Duane on it should be available for everyone to have. It is wrong for anyone to withhold this music from 'us'. Stop trying to make $$$ on something that belongs to the people, the fans. If Duane were here I believe he would give it to us and
tell everyone to enjoy it.

If a Duane era DVD were to be made it could include the Fillmore East segment, Love Valley and the Atlanta Pop Festival. The big mystery is the Atlanta Pop stuff. This has been stuffed away for years by the original filmmakers. They have the rights and it's very unclear what they intend to do with it.

I agree; why spend the time and money to film and record something and then let it sit in a vault for 37 years now. Ah well, at least we did get the audio portion of Atlanta Pop a couple of years ago. I think a Duane DVD would be quite a big seller, too.

Unfortunately you could not be more wrong, Brent. Duane's daughter Galadriel has 100% control over whatever happens to commercially released Duane Allman video or film footage. And that is how it should be.

And if nothing ever gets released commercially, under current law we just have to wait til 2070 for it to fall into public domain. Hmmmm, I wonder how many of us will still be posting then?

sadly, Duane is not here...and I agree with Hop on this one..as i leaned in divorce court, Art is property...property belongs to heirs...

I agree with the spirit of what Brent said.

Yeah, Duane's financial legacy certainly belongs to Galadriel. There's no contesting that.
I do feel that Duane's fans deserve the opportunity to see footage of Duane, even if it's just at a kiosk in a museum or something.

I hate to present matters in a capitalistic sense, but for how many more decades will Duane be marketable? Duane will always be a musical legend, but from a purely business standpoint his heirs would probably reap the biggest profit by releasing any footage of Duane as soon as possible.

And I agree with the spirit as well.

NO ONE has worked harder than I have to locate Duane Allman footage and make it available to those who wish to see it. But practically, the only way to do that is with a commercial release. The frustration I've felt over the years as I've waited for something like this to come together is excruciating.

The comments about marketability are right on the money.

The rumors about an imminent Duane video release have waxed and waned many times over the years, starting when that very first clip was shown in the Rolling Stone Magazine documentary back in the '80s.

Who knows when such a project will finally emerge? Not I.

While Galadriel has control, I tend to doubt that she is opposed to a video project about her father. Please correct me if I'm wrong. From what I've been able to determine the issue seems more to be the ABB organization's concern about risking their capital in such a venture. Granted that a DVD would be well received by members of this website, there are risks when sales to a wider market are required. Someone's got to organize and pay for the project. Are there any "benefactors" out there who would like to bankroll this?

BTW, this still won't resolve release of the tightly held Atlanta Pop video. While I haven't heard anything formally this may be the only footage of Duane playing Statesboro Blues.

Hopefully those films from Atlanta Pop have been stored properly. Depending on the film stock, the color (presumably it was shot in color) could be all but drained out of them or the film could be deteriorating.

I can't help but think that somewhere I have at least a song from this performance in my collection. Not sure though. It was different from Love Valley and Fillmore East.

Also I thought there was some black and white footage from Fillmore East from earlier in 1970? Maybe I am imagining it. I don't have it, but remember hearing at least a rumor.

Why not ask Butch on his blog and see if he answers. I've given up hope on any Duane era recordings coming out. I'll just enjoy what I've collected through the years.

I completely understand what everyone is saying...esp/ Lefty and Hop...Art is property, and property belongs to heirs...but Gladrielle must know that her Dad would be all for sharing the music. The marketability will never be better than now. There are obviously more flies in the ointment that we know...and the real shame of it all, is the "suits" that hold , say APF...well I wonder if they really know how badly they are depriving Duane's generation of the grandest gem....Duane on stage. Or, do the care?
Just IMHO, it is very very excruiciating to know that crumbs exist...so close yet so far away. I don't think I will live to see any Duane released. Very sad.

The Atlanta Pop Festival footage has all been transferred is what I've heard. I'm saying someone reuploaded the teaser clip of Statesboro Blues from Atlanta Pop Festival.

As far as i know none of the footage is owned by the ABB or their heirs. Fillmore East footage and Atlanta Pop Festival footage is owned by other parties and i guess it stayed in the vaults for so long due to complex legal matters. Just my 2 cents.

There's a thread on this forum telling of a planned documentory about Alex Cooley's Festivals put on in the ATL are in '69 & '70. Maybe, just maybe this one will come to fruition and we'll see some or hopefully most of the Byron footage finally!

Never ever give up! I got to see him on stage with the Brothers once and it changed my life! I have often dreamed/prayed that this footage will somehow see the light of day for his fans!

Butch told me a few years ago that there were no cameras rolling when I made a comment about seeing photos of the band onstage at Byron and the presence of video cameras onstage as well, yet the latest clip that popped up on Facebook has a shot where the guy with the camera right in his face!

As long as I have worked at HTN (20 years) we have always hoped for a DVD release with Duane footage. In every single instance there is a roadblock. The ABB, Galadrielle and the management of the ABB would all like for this to happen. Just because it has not happened does not mean they haven't tried and tried and tried. Believe me when I say it is very frustrating for eveyone....
