Hmmm. More than ten, and these will cut across many genres, with no rhyme or reason, perhaps, and will lean heavily toward the prog . . .

No order . . .

1. Greg Lake
2. Jon Anderson
3. John Wetton (U.K., Asia, King Crimson, among others)
4. Ian Anderson
5. Annie Haslam (Renaissance)
6. David Gilmour
7. Roger Waters
8. Linda Perry (4 non-blondes)
9. Janis Joplin
10. Bruce Dickinson
11. Rob Halford
12. Mississippi John Hurt
13. Susan Tedeschi
14. Geddy Lee
15. The incomparable Yolanda Adams (contemporary gospel diva-blows the heaven out of CeCe Winans)
16. Peter Gabriel
17. Cisco Houston (Woody Guthrie protege, incredible voice)
18. Ramblin' Jack Elliot (similar - in background, not vocal style)
19. Warren Haynes
20. Bob Dylan

Any list that has Bob Dylan and not Warren Haynes is just ridiculous!
I love Bob's songs and have seen him several times over the last 20 years and
his vocals are... well best refered to as an acquired taste and most commonly referred to as brutal. Not to say he isn't one of the best songwriters of the last 50 years.

as always just MHO

Damn TopDroog, Geddy Lee?! Really? If I was going to start a list of least favorite singers their would be heavy competion between Geddy Lee, the singer from Boston, and Kevin Kinney as to who would get the nod at the #1 spot.

No offense intended, just surprised to see his name.

Hey, I had five women on my list . . .

And as for Geddy Lee . . . for me, anyway, the best Rush period was 2112 through Moving Pictures - and I think his voice is perfect for that context . . . I don't know how well he would gel with other formats . . . but I've always liked high-register male prog singers.

BB King
Bob Dylan
Neil Young
Mick Jagger
Ray Charles
James Brown
Willie Nelson
Van Morrison
Boz Scaggs
Gregg Allman
As you can see I don't really go for the singers who are easiest on the ears. I like the honesty/emotion displayed. Much the same taste as I have in guitarists.

Yes, your list did have more than the "average" number.

So does that mean you're a Jon Anderson fan?

I'm so glad to see someone else say Kevin Kinney.... I have never liked his voice...but a lot of folks do...I guess. I can handle Geddy in small doses.....

Of course some of my choices were growling metal dudes

give now to the halfway house for high-register male prog singers...they need our understanding, our love, and our help.
