Weeee-EEEEEE-eeeeee.....

We need to get about 30 theremins together and jam! We could generate the soundtrack for every spooky movie that will ever be made. Think of the royalties...

Theremins are cool - never played one, but it's pretty interesting stuff. The first real electronic instrument, I think.
The only other thing that comes to mind in Carlos's category is crystal glasses with water in them. Oh, and windchimes. Now that'd be a crazy jam.

Ah yes, grasshopper, but you still have to make physical contact with the glass and a thin layer of water.....I think that was actually called something like a armonica? Apparently Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin could play the thing........hmmmmmm....Layla on glass and water

Nay...it was Klaatu Barata Nictu. Filmed here in Washington, DC, with reckless disregard to the actual street grid ("They're turning west on 18th Street"...which happens to run north and south...for example).

I thought Ringo was perfect as Klaatu, BTW.

Ah man, i guess the Triangle doesn't count? You don't actually touch the instrument, you touch the thing that you hit the little triangle-thingie with. (I'm sure their is a proper name for this thing but never needed it before now...)

My favorite Triangle perfomance would have to be whoever played the Triangle on "Crazy Fingers". Now thats a crazy jam.

My only other vote for a Musical Instrument you play by not touching would have to be....ah man, who am i kidding? i don't have one. there's just too many to choose from.

I thought you just had to move your hand over the glass properly. Maybe I'm wrong.

Actually found a site on armonicas or Glass harmonicas

"Glass Music lass making has been known since ancient times – our first examples of glass date from 2500 BC. From the time of Pythagoras music has been played in varying ways with glass bowls filled with increasing quantities of water. The East Indian ‘Jal Tarang’ (a set of tuned glass or porcelain bowls struck with mallets) also has a long history dating back this far.

A set of wine-glasses played by rubbing wet fingers around their rims is known as "musical glasses," and first appears to be generally known in 14 th century Persia. Largely because glass music was often played by amateur performers, its history retains a misty and legendary quality.

In Europe, the earliest reference to musical glasses dates back to 1492. After this date amateur performances are documented featuring sets of wine glasses arranged on a table, fine-tuned by the addition of small amounts of water. The resulting sound exerted an immediate hold on the popular imagination and was heard everywhere from parlor circles (the ‘Gay Wine Music’ of 1667 London) to the churches where its mysteriously spiritual qualities could be enjoyed and meditated upon. These unique qualities gained a widespread popularity during the height of Romanticism in the 18th century."
