I've been waiting for this for a while now, and it finally comes out at 2 PM today.

So far, the only name to be released is Roger Clemens. That makes me happy because 2 of my brother's 3 favorite teams have cheated now (Jets and Yankees).

Let's see who else is on the list later today.

Supposedly there will be "10 MVPs" announced who haven't already (unless my friend is wrong).

I'm thinking:

Juan Gonzales
Frank Thomas
Mo Vaughan
Chipper Jones
Sammy Sosa
Larry Walker
Jeff Bagwell

and some other non-MVPs like:

Jeff Kent
Gary Sheffield
Brett Boone
Mike Piazza

I will watch the press conference at 2. This steroid thing is out of control and sad. Everyone had to be looking the other way. I bet this leads to Selig resigning. I also remember all the coke heads in MLB back in the 80s, real embarrassment then too but the league weathered it. I wonder if they will weather this. I am pretty disgusted by it myself.

Just watched tape of Peter Gammons in his office being interviewed about steriods. he was sitting infront of his book case. One of the beautys of having Hi Def is you can read the titles of his books on his shelf.
One book was titled.. Bush's Brain.
it was a small book.

All they focused on was steroids.

No mention of amphetamines, which are supposedly much more abused.

Baseball sucks.

I couldn't care less about what drugs players do in their free time to unwind. None of ANYONE'S business. I doubt Keith Hernandez's play was enhanced by his coke habit. Same with Ricky Williams smoking weed. Who gives a sh*t?

The thing with steroids is that they wildly enhance strength and performance. Most of the major power/strength-based records in MLB are now meaningless. I was such a huge baseball fan as kid. I just can't deal with it anymore.

This is a bunch of whooo ha. Professional baseball used to be a passion. I played Little league baseball and baseball up through my freshman year in Junior College. I coached Little League for 6 years, played rec ball, softball and over the line. I love and understand the game. As a kid, I could identify 100% of all of the rosters, in both leagues. Some of that info stays with me today and comes in handy during baseball trivia contests. But today's game ?...Today's self centered player? I haven't been to a Pro Game since the last "work stoppage" in 1994. I refuse to give these brats any more of my money.

" How do you expect me to live on 7 million a year"?

So here's the question/statement:

Taking into consideration that the players union will never agree to testing,

The Mitchell report comes out and indentifies certain players. Just what do you think is going to be the result?

I'll tell you. Squat ola

Support your local L.L., H.S. and College teams. Go to a game.

I respect the opinions of people who say baseball sucks, the records are meaningless, the money is out of control, etc. etc. I do, however, disagree.

Pro baseball is no different than other pro sports. The money is big and that sets up certain dynamics that are distasteful to many, but we see it in all the major pro sports (we also see similar dynamics at the highest levels of corporate America, can you say Enron?). Steroids are a problem not limited to baseball, but whether it'd beacuse it is our "national pastime" or whatever, it gets singled out with this three ring circus of an investigation. To me pro sports are just a microcosm of what goes on throughout society every day. There are good people and there are bad people, and sadly it is typically is the most shocking things that get the headlines and become the basis of reality for a lot of people.

As for all the records being meaningless, there are a lot of things that allows players to perform at a higher level now than in the past that are perfectly acceptable, i.e. advances in nutrition (just look at all the stuff you can get now in your local GNC), biomechanics and weight training and surgical techniques...Tommy John proceedure is the most noteworthy in baseball, but orthoscopic knee surgery has also totally changed the playing field from 25-30+ years ago. We can only imagine "what might have been" had Bobby Orr had access to today's medical proceedures when he knees started to go.

Some of the more notable names, some surprising but most not, that are named in the report include Bonds (duh), Clemens, the Giambi brothers, the Canseco brothers, Benito Santiago, Gary Sheffield, Randy Velarde, Lenny Dykstra, David Segui, Larry Bigbie, Brian Roberts, Josias Manzanillo, Rondell White, Andy Pettitte, Chuck Knoblauch, Gregg Zaun, David Justice, Mo Vaughn, Glenallen Hill, Denny Neagle, Ron Villone, Kent Mercker, Miguel Tejada, Paul Lo Duca, Kevin Brown, Eric Gagné, Brendan Donnelly, Rick Ankiel, Paul Byrd, Jay Gibbons, Troy Glaus, Jose Guillen, Jerry Hairston, Jr, Gary Matthews, Jr, John Rocker.

There are other names I didn't recognize so I didn't bother listing them, and I haven't combed through the whole report yet so I there may be more in there I haven't come across.

Funny, all the "advances" listed above are ...legal.

Whether it is accurate or not, there is one common trend.....the only (former) Braves player on the list is Gary Sheffield. That says a lot about the recruiting of the Braves organization. Character comes first!

As Mitchell said, this is only the tip of the iceburg. You can bet there are players all over the country who are sipping wine tonight counting their blessing that they were missed.
No Question about it.
And this is not about one team, against the other as some are trying to make it out to be.
It's about Baseball...period.
Anyone who thinks any one team is void of a user has their head in the sand
It is a step in the right direction. But there is still a long way to go
All I want to know now, is...how many more days till Pitchers, and catchers?
