from the guestbook, via a post from Lana..

Hey there sweet family,

Anyone up late tonight?? If so, you'll be the first to know about .... (drum roll) ... Mayhem in Manhatten!

The Allman Brothers Band will be performing their annual spring fling in New York City during the month of May. The 2008 shows will be between May 5 and May 28. The venue and exact dates will be announced early in the New Year.

A Peach-O-Gram with the news is going out tomorrow.

Take care and know that you are loved,

Lana

Well this is good and bad. Here will be the dates (if past patterns hold true):

Monday, May 5
Tuesday, May 6
Thursday, May 8
Friday, May 9
Saturday, May 10
Monday, May 12
Tuesday, May 13
Thursday, May 15
Friday, May 16
Saturday, May 17
Monday, May 19
Tuesday, May 20
Thursday, May 22
Friday, May 23
Saturday, May 24
Monday, May 26
Tuesday, May 27
Wednesday, May 28

So 18 shows, very good. Unfortunately, I will miss a bunch because of APs, my brother's graduation, and a family trip to the Dominican Republic.

APs:
Monday, May 5: French
Wednesday, May 7: BC Calc
Friday, May 9: European History
Monday, May 12: Physics C

Graduation:
May 16 - May 18

Dominican Republic:
May 23 - May 26

I guess I could still make a bunch of shows

That sucks big moose pen!$ if it is not the Beacon. I hope they at least play the Hammerstein instead of Nokia. Either way, if I can't get an actual seat I will not be attending. I guess the renovations at the Beacon are really happening. I'm really gonna soak in these Gov't Mule shows in December in case they ruin the place and it sucks next time I go there. It has been my favorite venue for years and I will never forgive that freakin' Dolan if he ruins the vibe of that grand old theatre.

I thought the Hammerstein was all GA??

Luckily, I think the Nokia is too small for the ABB anyway

Can only assume by the title..."Mayhem in Manhattan''...it ain't "Peakin' at the Beacon''.

No seats....no go....gettin' too damn old to stand for an entire show. They ruined Bogart's in Cincy by going that route several years ago. Haven't been back but once in those years.....it'll be another 10. We'll hope for the best....! I do appreciate letting folks know the timetable tho'....

I wouldn't jump to conclusions about the venue just yet, my money is still on the Beacon. As for alternatives, United Palace Theater is a fine one...

Radio City?!?!?!

Loews in Jersey City would be a very accessible and also fine alternative, but it's probably not in anyone's sights. There have been a few shows there in the past year and the sound was amazing.

Theater at MSG???

Saw CSNY there last year and I thought is was a great place - fantastic sound, good sight lines. But none of the character of the Beacon.

Dolan does it again!!!

This might be a scheduling conflict due to Gregg's recent health problems - maybe the Beacon isn't available in May - but I seem to remember Butch saying that negotiations with the new team at the Beacon last year lasted longer than usual. I doubt that was because the MSG wanted to pay them more money.

Given what a disaster MSG is and the fact that they've got get Alan Houston, Lenny Wilkens and Larry Brown their money for NOT being Knicks from somewhere, it would not surprise me at all if they figured they could squeeze the band for more cash by holding the Beacon run hostage.

A BIG CLUE in determining whether this is hardball tactics by Dolan's people is A) how many acts are currently scheduled to play at MSG's two other venues - Radio City or the Theater at MSG (the theater sucks by the way) and B) if May is available at either one of these spots whether the band ends up playing the Hammerstein.

If A and B come to pass that does not necessarily mean that MSG is to blame - but it would sure look that way considering how Dolan's MSG seems to treat people. I am sure he does not personally deal with bookings, but given the fact that he is clearly a rock fan (has his own band which covers Little Feat among others) and the fact that he shows such insane loyalty to people he likes (and even though it would be highly improbable), it would be disappointing if Dolan didn't take notice of the fact that the band that has done so much to bring such history to his new venue was not playing the Beacon this year and step in....pipe dream I know.

Bottom line is, raise your hand if you were nervous as all hell when Dolan bought the Beacon and look at where we are now. Might be a scheduling conflict, but the way Dolan has F%^&ed up everything he touches, I can't give him or MSG the benefit of the doubt here. We'll see if the band plays any other MSG venues and whether it returns to the Beacon next year. Time will tell...and hopefully it doesn't turn in to one of those futile annual MSG rituals like hoping against hard cold facts that the Knicks will win a playoff game.

Thank you Lana

I know people will be dissapointed if not at the Beacon but it is better than no ABB at all.

May in NYC will be great! Lots of things to do. Catch a ballgame during the day and see a show at night

There's always the possibilty of a larger Broadway theater that may be dark during that time. Duran Duran had shows booked at the Barrymore Theater in November before they had to be cancelled by the stage hands strike. I honestly don't think the ABB could sell out Radio City for 12+ dates plus it lacks the intimacy IMO. As long as it's not a GA venue, it really doesn't matter to me.
