or not, i mean, what the heck.

OK, here's what we know so far:

Gregg has a rescheduled show on Friday, April 18, in Massachusetts.
Derek has a show in Savannah on Wednesday, April 2.
Wanee is April 11 - 12.
the Mule is at Langerado on March 6 - 9.

that leaves the last 3 weeks in March, or sometime beginning about April 24. any other clues out there?

Ron, you are nice to try.

I think the ABB team should just let people know (or have someone start a fairly reliable rumour) because there are so many people who count on March as the dates and make travel plans well in advance of concrete dates. You know I'm in the city already but so many people make the Beacon sell out year after year and many, many of them are from out of town. It is in everyone's best interests for the general timing to get put out early instead of later. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

Lana has always let us know around the first week of January so let's hold that thought and hope for some news then.

It will probably be late Dec early Jan before the official word is released. I read somewhere on this site the Warren was quoted saying it will probably mid April...........How about all the talk about renovations that were supposed to be done at the Beacon? I never heard anymore talk about that. Did they get it all done? I heard Clapton and Winwood both are coming this year..............LOL. I know all you folks love figuring it all out. I hope to make it this year myself..

According to the info I've gathered on this site over the last month:

1. Gregg is sick with a mystery illness that only "real fans" know about. He has cancelled solo dates and will be laid-up until April. March madness in NYC looking unlikely.

2. A lister recently asked Warren who said Beacon is happening, but "later than usual."

3. A lister asked Derek's dad who confirmed that the Beacon run would be later in the year.

4. My guess is May, after Wanee, after Gregg's re-scheduled solo dates.

that's my guess too. i've never been in NYC in May, hopefully it'll be before my kid gets on the exam schedule & is in school 2 hours a day. but whatever, i think it'll be nice to mix it up.

BTW, i'm just having fun here, and trying my best not to start another round of complaining about anything. sheeesh.

Change is inevitable. I wouldn't sweat WHEN it is. If it ends up in April or May, it's STILL the annual Allman Brothers Band Beacon run!

If its in May, the weather has much better chance of being favorable. I've frozen myass off in NYC more than once in Mid-March.

oh, me too! i remember one year when it was especially miserable, back in '99. yow! much less chance of flights delayed and cancelled by snow, too. in '01, two if us were in the greensboro airport, holding about a dozen other people's tickets for THAT NIGHT'S SHOW at 3:30 in the afternoon, surrounded by stranded travelers, some of whom had been there for two days. i think that may've been the only show where i drank a bit much before the show. at 4, he called me - i was in the tiny little airport bar, drinking heavily (and gloomily) to say the flight's boarding NOW. and we made it to the hotel, and the show, with time to spare.

good thing too, Chuckles showed up that night - i wouldn't have wanted to miss THAT for anything. wow!

I was thinking May also, but that kind of breaks tradition. I agree with BigDave's view. I hate to say it, but soon we will be more worried about IF instead of When. Sadly.................

Now that I finally got my new computer, I will be able to post the rest of the story on my day with the DTB, but in the meantime, here is what Derek told me that night:

Jeff: Are you playing with Clapton and Winwood at MSG?
Derek: Nah, I don't think so, they haven't asked me yet, but I definitely want to go.

and

Jeff: And what about the Beacon, do you know anything about that yet?
Derek: Yeah, it'll be happening, but probably later than usual because of construction. Our plan is to do around 15 dates, so we'll see when they fall.

Reminds me of an old Grateful Dead tape when the band does the last number. Promoter Bill Graham comes out and says this. "Instead of yelling more, more, more, let the band decide".
What if Gregg needs to take a year off? Would you go to a double bill at the Beacon in March featuring say, Derek Trucks Band along with The Mule?
My point is this. Gregg needs to get healthy long term. I don't know what's wrong with him. But I know this. Don't do to Gregg Allman what was done to Jerry Garcia. Jerry was so sick on tour he was pissing in a garbage pail on the side stage because he couldn't walk to a bathroom. And he died a junkie. Sad. The main thing for Gregg is to get his long term health back in order. I for one say to hell with a Beacon run this year if that's what it takes. We've already lost too many of the great ones.

That was Jerry's choice. Don't blame it on the fans. Gregg will do what he has to do to get better, regardless of what the fans want. Though I think it's safe to say we want him to get better.

I am in total agreement with Angelemerald!...If the dates are even tentatively scheduled to be anything other than March the community needs to plan accordingly. I would think the band and their organization would feel a responsibility along those lines, even if it does ratchet up the rumor mill as to why (that's going to happen anyway without an official statement)...
I'm already considering Langerado and beyond: who's up for Phil shed tour summer of 2008 and if the MSG shows justify it, why wouldn't Clapton and Winwood hit the circuit too?

Jerry certainly did things his way didn't he? While I didn't mean to "blame the fans", I do have a concern. That concern is that the Beacon run does not become more important than the issue at hand. Which is Greggs long term health. I thing everyone agrees. The issue of scheduling hotel rooms and vacations is perfectly valid. That's the part that I'm concerned adds weight.
I'm sure this year's run will be better than ever at the Ol' Beacon.
