To start off with, here are a few pictures from the night (the rest will be posted on some website, but my old picture website has apparently gone out of business, so I need to find a new one):

I'm still applauding your ability to see this through.

Great pics, Jeff. Congratulations again on pulling it all off...

You want to come down and do the same thing at NC State next semester?

My Day With The Derek Trucks Band (Part 1)

After over a year of planning, I awoke the morning of November 17th knowing that my dream was only hours away from coming to fruition. Although I had faced enormous doubt from nearly everyone around me (even including my mom at first), the Derek Trucks Band would be playing at my high school. Despite not falling asleep until 4 AM on Friday night (or, if you will, Saturday morning), I was up and ready for action at 11.
By 1 PM I had finished organizing all the tickets, finalized the seating chart and the seat assignment report of where every single person was sitting, and had wrapped up all the possible loose ends I could think of. At 1:15 I got a call from Chris Edwards, the tour manager of the Derek Trucks Band, telling me that the bus was about to leave the hotel. It was finally happening; the day I had been both waiting and working on for what seemed like an eternity had arrived, and it was at long last time to start dealing directly with the band.
I got to the high school at 1:30 and found my friend’s dad (with whom I had been working throughout the entire concert process, since he was the lead entertainment lawyer at Madison Square Garden for 18 years) setting up signs for the event. The lobby right outside the auditorium had been transformed into the lobby of an intimate concert venue, filled with all the usual signs about recording, smoking, and photography. The excitement within me continued to rise exponentially every time I saw a new aspect of the setup fulfilled.
At around 1:45 I got another call from Chris Edwards telling me that the bus was stuck – they were completely surrounded by bridges that they couldn’t fit under. I was sure that the bus wouldn’t be able to make it, and that we would have to attach the trailer with all the band’s equipment to the back of my Excursion, but they found their way around all the bridges and got to the high school parking lot at 2:00. The first obstacle was overcome without too much trouble.
Although I had told my friends that they needed to be at the high school no later than 2:00 (preferably 1:45), they decided that that time was flexible. I called at 1:55 asking where they were, and they assured me that they were just finishing “Moo Moo Farm”, a level in Mario Kart that normally takes about 5 minutes to play. When I hadn’t heard back by 2:05 I called again. This time, I was told, “We’re going to Chicken Joes, and then we’re going to come”. I was furious; I don’t think I have ever lashed out so hard at my friends as I did at that moment. “Max, are you guys f*cking serious? This isn’t some bullsh*t game, we are on a tight f*cking schedule, don’t go to Chicken Joes, get the f*ck over here.” All my friends arrived within six minutes after that; obstacle number two was out of the way.
Loading in the Derek Trucks Band’s equipment was absolutely incredible for me since I was handling one of my favorite band’s instruments. Marty Wall (the production manager for the band) really came through in the clutch and helped out moving gear to expedite the process. By 3:00 everything was ready to go for the show, we just had to play the waiting game for a few hours.

That Brown Acoustic guitar in the first picture had such a soulful blues tone to it. Just beautiful.

Is that Derek's '36 National?

BTW, I can't see how Derek likes the tone of a National with a glass slide. I bet it would sound a lot better with a steel slide.
nevermind...
