Okay, I've just started downloading shows, so I've got the hang of flac, bit torrents and converting to wav files.

Now I've got a show that was hard to find, the only problem is that the taper only had it in flac as one long file on dvd. So here's my question...

1. How do I get the flac file off the dvd onto my computer...do I use the Winamp system?

2. If the show (1 flac file) converts to one big wav file, how do I split it up into separate tracks?

Hopefully someone here can help me, folks here are pretty good with technical questions

Just open the window and drag it to a spot on your PC

And I think there is some splitting software out there, I have never looked though

Traders Lil Helper finds them on the E: drive so I never put them on the hard drive as flac just convert straight to wav then burn.

As far as busting it up into tracks Nero can do that, but I don't know how to (yet)

Is this "stable"?? No issues?? Almost sounds like a "burn on the fly" thing

There must be a relatively simple way to split the tracks, obviously tapers do it all the time. The taper I got this from never got around to it, but I wanted this show so I took it in whatever form I could get it.

I didn't hear any on the pc speakers, haven't listened to that show in the car yet.

Its just using the dvd as a drive to fetch from should,nt really matter where it gets it from should it?

We need linne or Ron B to check in.

Hi Neil,

I heard that EAC can do it but it's sorry that I'm a Mac user and didn'tuse EAC ever.
I always split big file to each track using Audacity, free wave editor.
You can download this program's latest version (1.2.6) freely from following link.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

To split file,

1. open the file from "File" menu.
2. put cursor to start point of the file ( click "|<<" button on the window ) and add label track by "project" > "Add Label At Selection"
3. edit track name
4. put cursor to start of next tune and do as same as above.
5. repeat it along whole tracks
6. click "File" > "Export Multiples" and program exports all the tracks as each files.

I hope this will be a little help to you.

Thanks Masahiko, that sounds promising. I've got time tomorrow so I'll give it a try. I'm guessing its a WAV file you split, correct?

Thanks punknseed, I've got the flac file translated into one big wav file...so far so good. I try the rest tomorrow, a 12 hour work day today and a few beers tonight has got me a little tired, don't want to mess this up or get frustrated.

I'll let you guys know how it works out, thanks to everyone who gave advice here, much appreciated

Masahiko thanks, that looks way easier than the way I've been doing it. (Cut, paste each track to new.)
You're the man.

Good luck Neil.

Yes, it's a big WAV file to split.
Of course same way can be done for other format like as mp3/ogg/aiff and beta version seems read FLAC directly and export as any other formats you select but I didn'y try yet.
Hope you'll get success.

I tried the audacity but couldn't figure a few things out so I downloaded the cdwave punknseed mentioned.

After reading the ins and outs of the toolbars, I finally got the hang of it and managed to split up the tracks, save the file and copy to cd

Actually its pretty cool, you can fast forward through longs songs, and you can tell where to put the splits in the tracks by the size of the sound wave.

Thanks again guys, this wasn't as difficult as I thought

Everything is easier once you know how to do it
