This time you'll have to work for it though! I did this here a short time ago with a bunch of extra disks I had burned from over the summer and I still have a few left over to send. First to correctly guess the answer to this question will get a nice collection of tunes sent out. The mystery sack could contain DVDs, FLAC or .shn DVDs, audio, hell it may even contain something you wouldn't expect. The point is this: Guess the answer right and you'll get some free tunes. It's a can't miss proposition.

There's going to be a giant Christmas sack going out that I've already begun working on that's been keeping me pretty busy, so please forgive the lack of offers on my part. I hope everyone here has been doing well.

Here's the question:

What was the name of the band Bob Weir was first a part of?

Anyone caught using Google for the answer will be strung up by their Buster Browns!!! Good luck folks.

1 guess per person.....sorry, I should have specified that.

Phil's book is a great read, I agree guys. I went to the signing for it that Phil did the day it came out. Not a bad day at all.

It was indeed a trick question Mukwa.....DAF is correct. PM your address and I'll get it out.

Tell you what guys, that was a little underhanded and I've got enough for another round so let's do #3 right now. Here's the question:

What singer was Jimmy Page's first choice to front Led Zeppelin?

Again, 1 guess. Googlers WILL ANSWER TO ME!!!!

I believe I read that in Hammer of the Gods, I'll have to check again. But that's what I understood. Page wasn't all that interested in having Robert Plant as his singer. All along he had designs on hiring Rod Stewart to front the band. I think it would have been a great choice.

Rod Stewart? Coming off the heals of two albums with Jeff Beck. That would have changed the direction of Zep. big time. Interesting to think about. Would they have followed suit with the bluesy style of the first Zeppelin album more than they did with Plant? Probably. Would their next albums have had anywhere near the commercial success? Personally, I don't think so. My hunch is that they wouldn't have lasted as long. I just don't think Bonham would have reacted very favorably to "Do You Think I'm Sexy".

I actually thought a Led Zep type band was Jeff Beck's original idea. I read that he wanted Rod Stewart as a vocalist with Keith Moon as the drummer with Page as the bassist.

I read the original; LZ was to be Moon & Entwistle (who would split from the 'OO) and some guy who went on to work for Page. Jimmy swiped the name

And can you imagaine Rod - who's always ready for a pint & a larf - digging Alistair Crowley & Tolkein??!
