We just got back from another weekend of good fishing on the coast of NC. We caught 1 shark, 12 Blues, 4 Whiting, 4 Pinfish, 1 Spot, 1 Ladyfish, 1 Lizardfish, 1 Flying Fish, 3 Pompano. We released all fish except the Blues and Whiting which we ate Monday night. Ummm they were good. The shark I caught we estimated to be between 20 and 30 pounds. That shark was a mean fighter too. It didnt want to come a shore. After about 20 minutes I finally got him in, took a couple shots and threw him back. It was all I could do to hold that shark by the tail for the picture.

Funny thing, all the fish we caught our dogs ran up and checked them out, they wanted to eat them, except for that shark, I think they knew not to mess with that. They stayed by the fishing cart and just looked. They would not get anywhere near that thing. I dont blame them either.

My son had just got done swimming and that shark pulled the fishing pole so hard, it tipped the cart up on one wheel. I grabbed it just in time or it would had flipped over. My son, said, that thing was out there swimming with me wasnt it......his eyes got pretty big. I told him that was a small one................ It will be awhile before he goes back in the surf.

Here are some shots .....................My son Chase and our dogs Trucks and Harvey

John, you're living the life man. I remember a few years ago surf fishing on Tybee Is., GA, my friend's big dog would eat whole fish we caught no problem (Blue and Whiting). I still don't see how that was possible but he did it. Get any Redfish (Drum) up your way? Them's good eating. I got a 19" one a couple of yrs ago.

You ate the damn bluefish and threw the POMPANO back ? You gotta be kiddin' me. I've sold thousands and thousands of lbs of bluefish I've caught at 15 to 25 cents a lb. but in 40 + yrs. of commercial fishing.. I've never seen Pompano drop below $2.50 a lb...the last I sold in the spring were $4.50 a lb.! Some fine eatin' too!

Just out of curiosity, which beach were you at? My friend has a real nice beach house on Emerald Isle that we go to every spring break - I must say that island is my favorite of all the NC beaches I've been to (I've been to just about all of the southern NC ones, none of the northern ones). I don't really recognize much from your pictures (haha I mean...all beaches have sand and ocean, right?), but I would like to know which one you're at.

Good pictures, by the way - that's a lot of fish for one weekend.

I wanted to keep them, if they were a little bigger. They were smaller than the live minnows we were using for bait. I had just rigged my smaller pole with smaller hooks and bait. I caught two blues at one time with the smaller rod with shrimp, so we switched to shrimp and the blues just jumped on the hook. I almost used the pompano for bait they were so small.

We fished all day Saturday with no luck out on the Lockwood Folly Inlet. We fished from sun up til around 5PM. Then Sunday back out there again at Sun up. We caught all those on Sunday. I bleed the blues as soon as I catch them and cut the blood vein out too.

Many Red Drum can be caught. I am searching for a small boat at the moment so I can get to them in the creeks. Its a slot fish here. You have to release them under 17 or 18 inches and over 28 inches. Those fish get huge. They have caught them where our house is on the Intracoastal Waterway.

We let them eat a couple old bait minnows, they would put them in their mouth and shake the sand off and pull the meat off. Smart Dogs.

We were at Oak Island, south of Wilmington NC. Where the beach runs east and west.
Emerald Isle is north up near Morehead City, very beautiful place. The water up that way
is much clearer. The water off Oak Island is usually very clear, but if they get alot of rain inland
the Cape Fear River gets pretty murky and clouds it up off Oak Island. The Cape Fear dumps into the ocean below Wilmington at Southport and Bald Head Island. Treacherous waters....

Not to sure, but I do have some mental pictures of a lip shark. Was that a lip shark that bit
that guys privates off and threw it out the window. Then they tried to re attach it????

This Saturday I am heading up to Cape Cod with the folks to winterize the northern crib. I already shipped my rod and tackle box up via FedX Ground. It should be waiting on the porch for me when I get there. Now, I dont have to lug the fishing stuff on the plane and around the airport. Gonna try for anything that bites.................maybe a Striper, or a Bonita. I will be fishing off a couple Jetties in Harwichport................I hope the steamed clams are in season.

I was hoping the Peacheaters were playing close by and Eric (No12runwith) could make it down for a few swigs of beer. But he cant make it.........Then possibly a run up to Rockport Mass, where my grandmother was from. Lobstah Land.
