As many of you know, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals have opened for the Mule many times this summer. She does a great Cortez The Killer with Warren. I had the privilege of seeing her open for Warren (and Little Feat) in CT last month, and saw her at the Newport Folk Festival, too. If you haven't heard her, I urge you to do so. While only 24, she sounds a bit like Bonnie Raitt, plays a B-3 (as good as Gregg) and a flying V guitar. Her new album is called This Is Somewhere. You may also want to check out her prior album entitled Nothin' But The Water (unbelievable song!). It includes a bonus 5-6 song concert DVD!

I just got front row seats for her 2/20/08 show at the Ridgefield Playhouse in CT! Tix are only $40. If you call the box office (203-438-5795), they will get you seating within the first 4 rows. You will also be a part of a lengthy "meet 'n greet/autograph session", too! Can't beat the price or accessibility.

Just trying to spread the word to those that never saw her. Any other Grace fans out there?

I'm going to see her again at the TLA here in Philly on Dec 1st. She's headlining so I'll get to hear more than the 1/2 hour set they do with Gov't Mule.

I first saw Grace Potter and the Nocturnals open for Mule two years ago in Utica, NY. By the way, she and her drummer initially hooked up while attending St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY (which is about an hour north of where I live). They've played several gigs in the "North Country," as it's called here in upstate, NY over the years. However, as they've gotten bigger and more well known, they haven't played around our part of the world nearly as much. They also played Moe.down I believe last year, which is held in Turin, NY which is just a few miles from where I'm typing this post. Love Grace.....Hoping Hard hat will add her to the Mountain Jam IV line-up this coming Summer.

I fell in love with Grace and the N's at Central Park this September when they opened for the Mule. She truly rocks. In an interview she said she prefers to be compared to Gregg Allman rather than Sheryl Crow and that crowd.

For those really into Grace, I just purchased a full concert DVD from which the 5-6 song teaser DVD (included with the Nothin' But The Water CD) is a part of. It's pro-shot and is incredible. Here is the link to purchase in case anyone is interested:

I hate to say this but does anyone else find her upfront outspokenness slightly annoying when Warren brings her out? My view has always been that when you are a guest in someone else's show, you don't upstage them verbally or otherwise. When Warren stepps onstage with others, he is quiet and just plays his guitar from the side and leaves, even when the crowd is there for him. I love Grace's charisma but when she comes out with Mule, I don't think she should yell out "how you all doing tonight!!!! Give it up for the Mule!!!!!. She can do that stuff during her own show. I'm sure no one agrees with me but that's just my opinion.

I don't see that that's a big deal.
I mean she's not flashing her boobs and screaming "Nocturnals, baby"

She's giving it it up for the Mule.

But I sure wouldn't mind it one bit if she did that though ...

I agree it's not that big a deal. I just said I find it slightly annoying. It's not annoying enough that I don't like seeing her out there. Ironically, at Central Park which I think was the first show they did together, Grace did not come out with the Mule.

One of the reasons I am into Grace is that she exudes energy and confidence. But, by her own admission, she is a fan first, and is in awe of some of the performers she has played with (including Warren). What you are getting is an excited 24 year old that says what she thinks. I saw her open for Warren at the Chevrolet Theater in Wallingford, CT last month. During her performance, she told the audience that she hated to say, "Grace Potter" and the Nocturnals because she was self-conscious. So, I don't that she is a self-promoter or grandstander. In your example, it seemed like she was paying tribute to Warren, not "one-upping" him. As long as she doesn't upstage the host (musically or verbally), I wouldn't change a thing.

Fair enough.

Maggie and I just saw her open for the Mule last week in Winston-Salem.
She rocks! And she's sexy enough to convert the Village People!
I'm only sorry she didn't come out to do one with the Mule.
The Mule, BTW, were great! Eminence Front?!?! I was blown away. I even liked the encore of Simple Man, but I could have done without the guy behind me yelling the lyrics in my ear.
