I've noted A LOT of excellent shows being booked up there recently and it looks like it's a "really clean/nice" version of the Beacon!

Has anyone, by chance, been to the United Palace Theater yet? I was wondering:

1) What the area surrounding the venue is like? Safe? Booze/food?
2) Are taxi's available after shows? Or is the only option a local subway ride?

I'm just not familar with the area WAY up there! Actually, I figured the venue must be in Connecticut when I saw it was on 175th.

Thanks in advance for any information, it'll be much appreciated!

Peace!

Jeanne posted a thread that dealt with United Palace not too long ago - believe it was a Van Morrison show which was being held there. I looked over their website and Black Crowes and some others have played there in the past. This place is absolutely gorgeous! Hope I'm lucky enought to see a show here someday. Don't know much about the Washington Heights/Inwood neighborhoods although I've been wanting to get up there to see the Cloisters. It is accessable by bus and subway and I would assume taxi's are also available. A local should be able to provide better info. Enjoy!

Yes, a great place for a show! ..was there last week for Van.The local red line (1 train) stops a few blocks east, I believe, and the A train stops right there. It's on Braodway and taxi's are available, but not as plentiful as downtown on the upper Westside by the Beacon. The neighborhood is not as economically affluent as the one at 75th and Broadway, but it's fairly safe. Washington Heights is a strong Dominican neighborhood and the businesses reflect that. There seem to be lots of places to eat, etc. I don't drink, so I didn't notice the booze options. I don't how easy it is to find parking either.

definitely a great venue! I would love to see the ABB there.
