I just got the mighty high one today and I'm totally digging it (and this comes from someone who didn't dog high and mighty - but bought it none the less)...

From Wikipedia:

Dub music is characterized as a "version" or "double" of an existing song, often instrumental, using B sides of 45 RPM records and typically emphasizing the drums and bass for a sound popular in local sound systems. The instrumental tracks are typically drenched in sound processing effects such as echo, reverberation, part vocal and extra percussion, with most of the lead instruments and vocals dropping in and out of the mix. Another hallmark of the dub sound is the massive low-pitched bass guitar. The music sometimes features processed sound effects and other noises, such as birds singing, thunder and lightning, water flowing, and producers shouting instructions at the musicians. It can be further augmented by live DJs. The many-layered sounds with varying echoes and volumes are often said to create soundscapes, or sound sculptures, drawing attention to the shape and depth of the space between sounds as well as to the sounds themselves. There is usually a distinctly organic characteristic of the music, even though the effects are electronically created.

Thanks, I posted this awhile back so people would know what "dub" is.

I will buy anything Warren puts out. I agree he is and folks always say he is the hardest working musician out there. But lets not forget Matt. He seems to always be in his shadow. Both are the hardest working in the business. Come on Christmas Jam.................

I love Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule, but I won't buy everything they put out. That goes for every band I love. If I hear it and I don't like it I won't buy it. I don't feel guilty about this. I have supported the Mule ever since they started. I have bought every official recording up until now, about twenty five Muletracks, probably fifteen posters and twenty five or so shirts. I have been a complete supporter of everything Mule. However, that doesn't mean I will buy something if I don't like it. Up until now I loved everything the Mule put out which is pretty amazing when you think of it. Not many bands have been able to satisfy me at that level through that many albums. If I don't like one EP and don't purchase it, I won't be any less of a Gov't Mule fanatic. I look forward to the Beacon run, Mountain Jam IV, and the next great Gov't Mule album whenever it might come. For those who like this EP, to each their own and enjoy.

To me, Warren Haynes is the best guitar player in the world. To suggest that there is something wrong with owning his entire catalog is utterly ridiculous. Itís not like the guy is collecting Justin Tinkerbell albums!

I bought Deja Voodoo. I can't say I liked it. It was way too different for me. It all kinda sounded the same to me. IMO i thought the wah was overused on that album. I thought there would be a little slide in it, you know to kinda sound a little like the Allman Brothers in a way, but no cigar. It is a good rock album, but not my kind of music from Warren.

I buy EVERYTHING from every band I love, yes even clunkers. I'm a bit of a "scholar" when it comes to music. I like to hear the whole picture so to speak. So many times that I've heard something I thought was crap, I've fallen in love with it over time. Although the opposite happens too.

I haven't gotten my EP in the mail yet, so I can't judge this particular release, although I've loved most of what the Mule has done. What I haven't loved, I thought was great, it just wasn't for me. Incidentally, I do love HIGH & MIGHTY as an album. It is probably 2nd all-time favorite Mule album. I think the Dub EP will be cool, but I can probably guess that it won't be my favorite thing they've done.

I do think it's cool that The Mule is spreading their wings and always trying some different thing, yet staying true to their roots. That's great.

PS You SHOULDN'T feel guilty for not buying something you don't like by a band you like. I don't expect everyone to be like me. And I hope no one thinks you should! Hey, you can probably save a lot more money than me!

I'm not a huge Reggae fan but I kind of liked it. The bonus CD is good too.

I was really hoping for a "Soulshine Dub" remix. Truly, I wanted three remixes. Just think of the possibilities here:

Soulshine
Moonshine
Sunshine

All Dub remixes using Soulshine. That would have been so cool!!
