Former Drummer of The Second Coming, John Meeks passed away this past Sunday night in an unfortunate house fire. I'm his cousin and just thought I would post this for anybody that knew him. He will be missed very much by his family and friends.

Johnny Meeks (John "Nasty Lord" Meeks to you guys) was a very unique individual. As a college student back in the early 90s in Boone (Yes, I'm only in my mid 30s) he was living in Blowing Rock. Johnny was the only family I had up on that mountain. The first cousin of my dad and the nephew of my grandma, Johnny was a very talented individual. He would make me tapes (yes, tapes---before you could burn CDs) of him jamming on the drums to certain songs. When the snow was piling up on the mountain, he would come and get me at my dorm and we'd spend the day talking and listening to music. I heard lots of great stories from him growing up and so many more great stories when I was old enough to appreciate them to their fullest.
This whole incident is so unfortunate and horrible (I went to the sight of the fire twice in one day) and as a family member, I would love to have some stories about the good old days-- told by others--and pictures if you have them---....Sure, I got his versions but I would love to hear from some others. Please keep his mother in your thoughts and prayers. It would be appreciated by all of his family.

I will get in touch with some friends who most likely have pictures besides the ones I posted. Some of those pictures came from Bob Flowers and some from Richard Price.

Keeping comfort vibes going out to all of John's family and friends. Extra comfort to some of those friends who knew John and Mike Callahan from those Second Coming days as it has been a tough month for them losing two friends so close together...

John was my cousin too; it's a sad loss. His health wasn't so good but his heart was right. He was getting going again with his photography, a passion we both shared. I've got a few stories too. What a charater he was.
The graveside service at Midway cemetary on Rankin Mill Rd. GRENC will be Sunday the 10/28 at 3:00
