Mighty High is mighty bad in my humble opinion. I understand the thought behind a concept CD but this one falls flat in soooooo many ways. I am not a Woodyless Mule basher either. I have loved everything that they have put out but not sure what they were thinking with this one. It will be very interesting to hear other opinions on this train wreck. Warren, lose the artsy cuteness as it doesn't fit the band. Here is hoping that this is a one and done for the Mule.

WHERE IS MY MULE??????????

WOW....I couldn't disagree more. I actually wasn't going to rush out and pick it up because I've heard the 'reggae' stuff live...its ok. But they had the CD at the show and I picked it up and haven't stopped listening. I agree, it's not your typical Mule, and probably not for everyone. But I love it! It's funky, and melodic, and a littlle ambient.

All I heard was 'So Weak So Rong' and I honestly thought it was terrible. If the rest of the record is like that I will be passing on this one. It would be the first Gov't Mule official recording that I haven't bought. When I originally heard a description of what the album would be I pretty much knew I wouldn't like it. When my friend gets his in the mail I will give it a listen, if I don't like it I don't buy it. I will continue enjoying 'High and Mighty' and all the other great Mule albums and wait for their next rocking production whenever that is.

I'm sure not going to knock Mighty High, but I will give it to you that I have heard much better by them--- that said..I have seen them live since the album and it hasn't impaired their live show at all. I just wouldnt go as far as to rank Mighty High in my top Mule list.

So far I've only heard 30 sec. samples of all of the songs. Definitely not your typical Mule, but I like what I've heard so far and will pick up the disc and give it a full listen. As far as being upset about the band trying to reinvent itself, what successful bands haven't in the past experimented with different sounds, techniques, beats etc.? Some have worked, some haven't. I applaud the Mule for trying out some new things, whether or not I prefer the classic Mule sound.

Listening to it right now- picked it up at Border's tonight - so no bonus disk.

I've always liked I'm A Ram, and it's a good strong opener...... I'll let you know what I think of the rest of it when it is done......

I love it! If you guys are judging this album on 30 sec. clips your really missing out on some good stuff! I've done the same thing before, that is to not buy a cd because I didn't like the sound bites and then I would hear the same cd after one of my buds would buy it and I was way off.

I am not a big fan of reggae, so the whole deal leading up to this disc has not excited me. What I have heard at myspace sounded pretty bad to me. Too techno, overdubbed and overmixed sounding to me. I want my Mule three ways; no edits, no overdubs, no apologies.

The new songs should flow nicely and add a new element to the live mule experience. I am looking forward for new mule this fall. I hope the next album gets on the same page with Dose and some of the heavy tunes that came after Dose. Nice to see the Bonus disc has a good selection. I wonder who influenced the album? Who came up with the idea?

I'm not a HUGE Mule fan (typically a little heavy for my tastes) and I haven't heard the new disc. I do respect Warren's willingness to step out of the safe area and try something a little different. He could just put out a blues album every year and folks would be happier than a dead pig in the hot sun. I appreciate his artistic approach.

I will be at the Mule show at the Alabama Theater next Sunday. Anybody else?

I'm still waiting on my pre-ordered copy. I really enjoyed the two tracks on their myspace site.

I sometimes kick myself in the ass for pre-ordering, because I could have picked this CD up at the last few shows...but alas.

I am waiting patiently, very patiently for Mr. Mailman... Where the &*^%*&&(*& is he, anyway!?!?!?!?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, for sure. I just know I've never been disappointed in anything Mule. I don't entirely agree with the comment about Warren continuously re-inventing himself because IMHO I see nothing wrong with change. It's still Warren, it's still Mule. So therefore, I am still in!

I, too, have only heard snipets of the songs at ABB shows while I was hanging out by the Mule Van, etc. I seem to keep more mainstream when it comes to Reggae (Tosh, Marley, Cliff, etc.), so we'll see what this Dub CD does to my taste.

Another thing...sometimes you have to listen to a song a few times for it to 'grow' on you. I've found that with songs from a ton of bands. But sometimes you just know it isn't good for you.

Guess we'll see a few of these CD's on eBay, eh? Give them another listen, friends...

Peace!

the first 2 tracks Mule posted on MySpace for this E.P. sounded pretty good to me, initiallly i was sold. then they posted "Unthrow That Spear" , and another one (the tiltle escapes me) and i'm having second thoughts about it now. they are still the best thing going in music today however.

I didn't really care for high and mighty... not sure how I'll feel about this one...

I'm gonna DL it fom emusic today... I will give them the benefit of the doubt... and even if it's not up to my expectations I won't feel bad supporting the mule!

I should know today if I like it. Old hippies playing reggae might be a forced issue, we'll see. I'm ticked my pre-order hasn't showed up yet. It was shipped last Friday. BTW, the price sure was right.

I'm looking forward to getting my pre-order also. I'm thinking of this as sort of an EP. Some music to tide us over to the next real studio CD. They obviously had a lot of fun with the Dub Side of the Mule set last New Years and this is a continuation of that vibe. I think if you like Reggae you'll dig it. If not, you won't. I love Reggae , so I'm hoping for a fun CD. Dub usually means a remix or placing a sort of a house beat behind a song. It's not always my cup of tea since I like the rootsy reggae style but it should be cool.

I've been listening to Dub Side of the Moon a lot lately. An allstar reggae band covering the entire Dark Side of the Moon album. Really cool stuff. I'm pretty sure that's where they got the idea for "Dub Side of the Mule"

I'll post a review of the new CD once I listen to it. I'm especially looking forward to the live bonus disc.

If Mule is typically a little too heavy for you, then I suspect that you will enjoy this.

I'm listening right now to one of my favorite tracks - Horseflies, which of course is a remix of Like Flies. This song is clearly not reggae, and I'm not sure I would really call the CD reggae, definatly reggae influenced, but it's very eclectic with a lot of funk and little electronic throw in.
