..you see, she was 106! How can I mourn a life like that. I went to the wake to applaud her!
she has been a celebrity in NJ for years now. Was active to the end.
She attributed it to not eating meat the last 40 years, playing organ and singing, and staying active.
Some women in my family jokingly say it was because she had no husband to deal with for the past 35 years.
What a life she had.
RIP aunt Rose..you were the best!

That's very cool she had such a long life, Vinny. She sounds like she was blessed with good health and longevity.

I saw a thing on the news a while back about a woman in Indianapolis who was 110 or 111 years old and was a huge Colts football fan. My first thought was, WOW, she has live through the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries! How many people can make THAT claim?

I'll be happy to hit 70 at the rate I'm going.

Viva Aunt Rose!

Wow Vinny, a funeral is to celebrate the life of the deceased. I'm guessing this one went on awhile then! Good for Aunt Rose. Please tell me she was Italian.

Better tell my wife, daughter thats how it is too be, hopefully I'll get a little bit longer in the tooth than I am today.

Thats great but I'm not so sure I'd want to live that long. I met a man once that was 101. he told me the bad part of living that long is he actually out lived all 3 of his children. His last son died that same year at 81. I'm not sure I would want to out live my 2 boys.

He was in a old age home paid for by the state becuase his money ran out a long time ago. With medical prices and insurance on the rise and the fact that most retirement systems are just not designed to pay for someone in their 100's...........life could be tough at 100.

Sounds like Rose had it made though. Good for her!

I've got a Granny who might just pass up your Aunt. She's 98........of course she's got a few aches and pains, and had a lump removed from a breast maybe 8 years ago. Other than that, there basically is NOTHING wrong with her, and mentally she has lost NOTHING, just as sharp as a tack. Amazing woman. The biggest kick I get outta her is that, being raised in Indiana, she's a HUGE basketball fan, NBA in general, but especially the Lakers. Don't bother asking her out to brunch on Mother's Day, forget it, she's planted in front of the TV every year for the NBA playoffs.

Dave: I'm sure she's told me, but I actually can't remember what town in Indiana Grandma Alice is from. They moved to California many, many years before I was born, so it's really a distant memory anyway. Having lived in SoCal for many years, that explains the Lakers loyalty. Here's the coolest thing about it: Picture a 98 year old white woman from the Midwest. She for most of her life was as prejudiced as any of them.............black people were niggers, and if they moved into the neighborhood, you moved OUT!
Enter one charismatic basketball star named Magic Johnson. She absolutely fell in love with the man, basically worshiped him, both on the court and off. You should have heard her weeping to me on the telephone when he was diagnosed with the HIV virus. Her attitude towards black people has never, ever been the same. I attribute it strictly to Magic and his infectious charisma. And his personality goes right down to the core of the man.........at one time Magic was giving something like 250 speeches a years on AIDS prevention, and to my knowledge, all of it was done as charity work, with no pay.

Rene,..youare so right..just how she wanted it.
There were Champange toast, pictures, stories...and just a good feeling all around.
It was like no other wake I ever attended.

That is one I wouldn't mind seeing..go Granny!
Can she stilll slam dunk..

I couldn't agree more..they must be quality years..not in a nursing home having your diaper changed, and having to be fed.
But Aunt Rose still traveled to Florida every Winter..is survived by her only daughter (who she lived with), so she never had to deal with the trauma, and distress of the unthinkable for a parent...burying a child.
She was truly blessed, and i feel blessed to have had her in my life.
Thanks all for your sentiments!

Did she eat yogurt? I just want to know if those stories are true. By the way the psychics say I'll live to be at least 99

Aunt Rose kinda sounds like my Granny Tabor, who lived to be 99. I also had a great grandpa on my dad's side who lived to 102!

Gina, I couldn't tell you that for sure if she ate it religiously. It was her overall outlook, and pleaseant way about her I think that attributed to her longivity mostly. I mean, I have no memory of her without this smile of hers on her face.
Also..everyone gets a number in life..and, she got a good number
Glad to see your going to be around till your at least 99 to post here...you do have a following

What is it about Aunt Rose? Mine (great aunt) lived to 99. She lived on the next street over, so she was always around when I was growing up. We spent many Thanksgivings there. Her sons just sold her house this past month; the end of an era.
