Wow. I have to say, that this guy is absolutely amazing. I have been listening to so much more and more of him lately and it is too good, I really can't get enough of it. It is great to have a new person to listen to and to really appreciate what he has done.

What do you guys think about him?

Curtis...some soulful singing and guitar playing...

Listen to his guitar playing on the intro of "Think" from "Superfly"....

If you dont have goosebunps after that...well never mind....

if curtis had never written anything after "people get ready" his place in the r&r hall of fame would have been secure. i love his work with the impressions along with his solo stuff. definetly an artist who left us much too soon.

btw the hourglass covered mayfield's "i've been trying" on their first lp.

Love Curtis Mayfield - both his Superfly/Pusherman type of stuff and his soulful, spiritual stuff like People Get Ready/We The People. Tremendous influence on those who followed.

People get ready, there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket you just thank the lord

People get ready, there's a train to Jordan
Picking up passengers coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board them
There's hope for all among those loved the most
There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner whom would hurt all mankind
Just to save his own
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
For there is no hiding place against the kingdoms throne

People get ready there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket, just thank the lord
