Wife and I watched this movie last night, a decent movie. However, the SCORE and Music is phenomenal. It features among others:

NMAS
Black Keys
R.L. Burnside
Charlie Musselwhite
Alvin Youngblood Hart

I recommend watching this for the music alone. Or if you just want to see Christina Ricci in her underwear for half the movie. Plus any movie with Samuel L Jackson is worth the price of rental.

I completely agree with you about the soundtrack - outstanding. But I thought the movie was very very good, too. I thoroughly enjoyed Jackson's musical performances - who knew he was a great blues guy? Honestly, I almost skipped the film all together when I saw Justin Timberlake played a big role. I was pleasantly surprised by him. His music may not be my cup of tea, but he's a talented actor and musician and seems like a decent guy.

I checked the soundtrack this morning on I-tunes and Samuel L Jackson has three tunes on it. The one from the Juke Joint scene is on it and it is really cool. I am buying that and NMAS "electric Blue Watermelon" today.

I was told that [Alvin Youngblood Hart] Schooled Samuel L. Jackson in the art of blues guitar playing, just for his role in the movie.

Samuel sings pretty damn good too. Again, for the music alone this movie is really cool.

Try putting out a movie with a poster of a buff white guy with a black woman on a chain link leash and see what happens. I haven't seen this trash, but any white person that would promote this film on any level, based on the ads alone, should be ashamed of themselves.

Terry Gross interviewed Samuel L Jackson about this movie a few weeks ago. It led me to rent it.

About his playing in the movie, he said he had been offered lessons prior to reading the script. He put it on the back burner. He started takning guitar lessons about eight months prior to it all & when he went to read for the part he played for the casting directors & it sealed the deal.

So it's my ignorance that makes it a fact that black men are responsible for the disporportionate amount of rapes [against white women especially] committed in the USA in relation to their percentage in the overall population? My ignorance causes this, and being outraged out a movie poster that makes light of this is wrong? Seeing or not seeing the movie is not the point. In NYC it is virtually impossible for any reasonably attractive white woman to walk down the street and not be harassed by black men. I have every right to be outraged by ANY form of media that further puts my female famlily members and friends at greater risk. Here are the plain facts;

http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/cvus0502.pdf

Black men commit approx. 50% of the rapes and yet are only 13% of the population. Approx. 34% of all rapes against white women that are reported are committed by black men, again only 13% of the population. Wake up.

WAKE UP? thank god you told me this stuff! Now i get to live in fear that i'll be raped by a black man.

This movie has NOTHING to do with a black man raping a white woman but your steroptypical treatment must save a lot of time.

Your ignorance is in presuming to know what this movie is even about then doing your racist dance. BTW - this movie is not about a white woman being raped by a black man. You are reacting to the advertisement which, like ALL advertising, is over the top and meant to be controversial (I'm not saying I agree with sex as a marketing tool I'm just saying it is what it is).

You've attached a PDF document with charts and graphs and numbers that supposedly outlines crime rates in the US in 2005 and then make a statement that 50% of all rapes are committed by black men. I'm not seeing in this chart exactly where your figures have been derived from. I also know that these types of statistics are only as good as the database being reported against. So what we have are a lot of charts and absolutely nothing to support where/how/why/what of the information gathering which occurred to create these stats. No supporting documentation - just a bunch of numbers in graphs.

Allen, it sounds from your email as if you have had a female loved one who may have been subjected to harrassment or worse (hopefully not the case). I am sorry for you and for your friend(s). But to say that a white woman cannot walk down a NYC street without being harassed by a black man... that is plainly NOT the facts. That attitude is, however, frighteningly similar to that of a couple of Mississippi 'gentlemen' who came in contact with one Emmett Till back in the 50's. It boggles my mind and makes me more than a little sad for all of us.

You're right about NYC. This white woman has walked through NYC, during the day and at night, and never once have I been harrassed by a black man.

I am not addressing the content of the film, which is irrelevant. I am simply stating that facts being what they are, facts that are substantiated in virtually any legitimate crime study you care to look at, any self respecting white person[as few as their are these days] would and should be offended by the vile marketing of this movie. And you know full well that if the races of the actors on the poster were reversed how blacks would exploit it to no end. If stating facts makes me a racist, then I guess I am a racist. And no, thank God no one close to me has ever been subjected to this. All I have to say to any white person that wants to argue with me about this, WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Me neither, but lord knows i've been harrased by plenty of white boys. Well i hate to break this to ya dancingrhonda, but according to Allen-T's logic, we must not be 'reasonably attractive'.

LMAO! Because Allen, your logic is laughable. (Rhonda - I think Allen is calling you a wild hootchie mama ...)
