My musical tastes are far-reaching and Iím willing to try just about anything. Although she hasnít made it into my listening library, I see Bjork everywhereÖshe just headlined at ACL Fest. I read great reviews, especially in the European press and see her winning lots of awards. Iíve listened a little, but donít really get the music, but maybe sheís just not my taste. Can someone explain her talent and what makes her so popular? Iím not being a smart @$$, Iím genuinely curious about her.

I feel I have an open mind and far reaching tastes, but I honestly don't get it either.

Bjork is one weird chick, but I do enjoy some of her work, and here's why...

1) She is a genuine artist who does what she feels, regardless of whether anyone "gets it" or not. I appreciate that her music seems to come from deep within her, without any regard for marketability, image, or CD sales.

2) If you can get past the weirdness, she has an incredibly powerful, glass-shattering voice. I admire her instrument, even if I'm not always fond of how she uses it. She has an amazing range, and when she hits the high note, dogs bark on the other side of the planet.

Knowledge is usually power, but in a world that makes as little sense as hers..... I don't know what the thoughts or motivations are. A very interesting character indeed.

Worked with a guy who played her endlessly which tortured the rest of us.

The only song I have retained is the one with the video of her and the giant teddybear.

Beautiful voice, beautifully wierd sensibility. Haven't listened to a lot of Bjork but I do admire her vocal talent and although I don't always 'get' her message I have to admit that I admire her courage in putting herself out there in such a unique way. JR - thanks for the videos ... reinforced both of my opinions of her. (I noticed that one was directed by Spike Jonze so obviously she had other people of talent wanting to work with her). Now, about that swan dress...

Thanks for the video links Yurtle. This was better stuff than I have been exposed to. Maybe I need to have the visual side happening also...I enjoyed the wierd combo of music and art.

I've been to Iceland, so it's no surprise to me that that's where she comes from. The fine folks there are fiercely independent, self sustaining and a little wierd in a stoic sort of way. Bjork is certainly not my cup of tea(or Brennavin, their hooch referred to as "black death"), but someone's got to like her. She's got bigger ballz than most American men.

I thought that dress Derek posted was a great statement of hers! Excellent mockery of all the "fashionistas" of Hollywood...and when she laid the egg on stage! lololol
