That's a great documentary ("Celebration at Big Sur") -- lots of great stuff, great version of Sea of Madness by CSNY with the Deja Vu lineup (Greg Reves & Dallas Taylor) -- GREAT interview w/the high school teacher who opted out of that gig to start his own school -- good backstage acoustic jam w/Stills & John Sebastien -- Joan Baez doing I Shall Be Released during the opening etc etc

I thought that was great what Stills did -- that turkey he confronted was going around heckling hippies, heckling the band etc -- so Stephen said, enough is enough, came offstage & challenged the guy -- that's called taking no BS, and this from a supposed peace & love "hippie" -- it was broken up almost as quickly as it started
later on Stills explained where he was coming from, then went into 4+20

The entire set by CSNY circulates as a soundboard. This incident occurred right at the beginning of the set.

Dig David Crosby saying "Peace Love, Kick his ass!!"

Isn't there another scene in that documentary where Stills goes ballistic on Crosby? It's either in this flick or another one. I just remember Crosby being relaxed in a hammock and Stills shows up and gets all in his face for being late for or missing a rehearsal. I like Steve Stills, but he was known for his drill sergeant attitude.

They Need to keep a tight rein on David, he tends to get in trouble.

I have CELEBRATION AT BIG SUR on bootleg dvd-r an had it on vhs for many years prior (taped off PBS-TV in the 80s). The movie was panned when it was originally released because it appears to be a Woodstock cheap movie cash-in. The Big Sur Folk Festival never gained the reputation of Woodstock, but there are still some classic performances nevertheless.

The concerts took place at the Esalen Institute, which I believe is still up and running. Looks like a beautiful place along the California coast. In 1970, the concert was moved to the Monterey Fairgrounds, and featured the Beach Boys, Country Joe, Kris Kristofferson, Linda Ronstadt , Joan Baez and others. This festival earned a one disc LP (mediocre quality) and one bootleg of the Beach Boys set. In 1971, the Big Sur Folk Festival came back to Esalen Institute, and featured Joan Baez, Kris Kristofferson & Mickey Newbury. This festival also was recorded for an album called ONE HAND CLAPPING.

Rusty, what's up bro -- I believe that scene you're thinking of is not from the Big Sur show -- it's on the CSN "Long Time Gone" documentary where, as you say, Stills wigs out bigtime on Crosby, who's just chilling in a hammock -- he's right in his face, screaming stuff like "ya **** in' hypocrite!!"
But I do believe it's from a gig besides Big Sur, will have to pull that one out -- that's a very good documentary btw (LTG)

Great clip, never seen it. God, does CSNY sound HOT here! The big grin on Neil Young's face says it all.
