Simpson Named Suspect in Casino Break-In
By KATHLEEN HENNESSEY, Associated Press Writer
1 hour ago

LAS VEGAS - Investigators questioned O.J. Simpson and named him a suspect Friday in a break-in at a casino hotel room involving sports memorabilia.

The break-in was reported at the Palace Station casino late Thursday night, police spokesman Jose Montoya said. He said investigators determined the break-in involved sports collectibles.

"When they talked to him, Simpson made the comment that he believed the memorabilia was his," Montoya said. "We're getting conflicting stories from the two sides."

Simpson was released after he and several associates were questioned, but he is considered a suspect in the case, Montoya said. He is believed to be in Las Vegas.

"We don't believe he's going anywhere," he said.

The Heisman Trophy winner, ex-NFL star and actor lives near Miami and has been a tabloid staple since his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman were killed in 1994. Simpson was acquitted of murder charges, but a jury later held him liable for the killings in a wrongful death lawsuit.

Simpson has had to auction off his sports collectibles, including his Heisman Trophy, to pay some of the $33.5 million judgment awarded to the Goldman family.

On Thursday, the Goldman family published a book about the killings that Simpson had written under the title, "If I Did It." After a deal for Simpson to publish it fell through, the family bought the rights and retitled the book "If I Did It: The Confessions of a Killer."

Investigators in the casino case planned to give their report to prosecutors Friday, Montoya said. The district attorney's office will decide whether to pursue charges.

Simpson had been scheduled to give a deposition Friday in Miami in a bankruptcy case involving his eldest daughter. But it was rescheduled because Simpson had told attorneys that he would be out of town.

Patricia Jones, a woman at the Florida office of Simpson attorney Yale L. Galanter who identified herself as Galanter's associate, said Galanter was out of town and had been forwarded messages seeking comment.

The Palace Station, an aging property just west of the Las Vegas Strip, is one of several Station Casinos-owned resorts that cater to locals. The 1,000-room hotel-casino, with a 21-story tower and adjacent buildings, opened in 1976.

A company spokeswoman did not immediately return a call for comment.

He's also being sought in a number of Rental Car theft's.

Hertz officials say that after questioning Simpson about this, he said he believed the cars were his.

But he doesn't get any royalities from it...the publication rights, etc are all owned by the Goldman family exclusively.

Is there any way we can get O.J. a jail cell next to Michael Vick...while we're at it, lets reserve one for Pacman Jones too. It won't be long until he is a "victim of circumstance" again...

There are different opinions on how good it may be. The Brown family is adamantly opposed to publication of this book because of the terrible way it portrays Nicole. This has caused some friction between the Brown and Goldman families.

The Goldman family has always rubbed me the wrong way. Yeah I feel bad they lost their son and whatnot but just the way they act bugs me for some reason.

They even renamed the book. If I Did It: Confessions of a Killer. Isn't that slander? I mean he was found innocent and I'm sure in that book he denies being the killer.....

I too feel bad for anybody who has lost a loved one to an act of senseless violence. It sounds like the Goldman's philosophy in publishing this is to bring to the public's attention what a scumbag OJ is - I don't think they are in it for $$$ at all. They just want to shine a hard light on the individual who murdered their loved one for all the world to see. Kind of like giving him a continual poke in the side. That's how they handle their grief - everyone experiences things and deals with things in their own way. They didn't receive any closure through the judicial process.

All they did was add the subtitle. OJ came up with the title and wrote the book and he was definitely in it for the money. And, yes, OJ was found innocent but there are many who believe that the trial was a farce (raising hand here).

Judge Ito: "Mr. Simpson, a jury of your peers have found you not guilty. You are free to go."

OJ: "Great! Can I have my gloves and stocking hat back now?"

Are you saying that the gloves didn't fit the first time. They fit when I saw him put them on in the courtroom. Maybe a little shrunken from the dried blood from his ex wife's blood that poured out of her throat after he nearly severed her head as his kids were sleeping only feet away. Who said that gloves have to fit perfectly for someone to commit murder wearing them. This scumbag is lucky to be breathing air much less walking around amoungst normal human beings.

How would you feel and what would you do if someone sliced the throat of one of your loved ones, got off scott free, and was still walking around acting like some big sh!t. He even signs autographs of pictures with him holding knives and such. Not only was he guilty, but he also shoves it in the Goldman's faces. Simpson deserves anything bad that could possibly happen to him. Besides, he was found guilty in civil court and owes the Goldman's lots of money that he keeps trying to hide and shelter from them. I would like to see Simpson homeless and in the gutter without a penny. I will buy a copy of this book just to support the Goldmans.

I don't disagree that they should be angry. But as I don't want to see OJ on TV I don't want to see Fred Goldman either. The Browns aren't out there in the press all the time. Every time I see something about OJ and the murder I always read about the Goldmans doing something or other to keep their name in hte press or whatever. What happened to their son was horrible but at this point the nation is pretty much tired of hearing about it. Lots of people have relatives murdered and guilty men go free every day but I'm not hearing about 99 percent of these cases ten years after the fact. The Goldmans just strike me as people that at this point just want to be in the public eye. That's just my humble opinion of course.

But to clarify: OJ is a scumbag.
