There was a Marvel Comic series when I was coming up called "What If". Ok, here's a "What If." Ok, so Dickey blows on guitar so bad that he was embarrassing Warren, the newbie, and giving bad leadership to little Derek. Ok, so they Kicked his old ass out. None of this, hey, you wrote half the band's songs, or you were half of this band since 1972, none of this, "Dickey, you have the right to relax a little, you are loved. Grow old gracefully. No, Hell no, this is Rock and Roll and as such it should be ruthless, so out with the old fart and in with the fat one, the guitar god, Warren Haynes, oh yeah, and little Derek. Ok, so they got rid of Dickey, so now it is Gregg's turn. Here then are my reasons. Ok, so while Dickey was still getting by on guitar, while Warren was doing no wrong, well Gregg was just out there on another of his drug dependency periods. People, listen, I went to my own hometown ABB reunion tourin 1989 here in Jacksonville, FL, and Gregg overdosed, or something and had to leave. Now the Florida Times Union said, that Gregg Allman who has had a record of drug and alcohol dependency, had an alergic reaction to a throat medication, and had to leave the show. Ok, I am to believe that the guy who has been on heroin, cocaine, PCP, pot, alcohol, you name it, that he cannot handle a throat medication. Sure, whatever. So the band plays Ramblin" Man which they had promised not to do, etc. Anyway, Gregg was looking like **** through half of the nineties. He got so fat that he notes in Hittin' The Note, that his ass was too big for his own corvette. Did anyone catch fat Gregg on the Austin City Limits special, or how about the Hall of Fame induction? Well people, Gregg looked pretty bad, in more ways than one. Meanwhile Dickey was mean, lean and most important, COHERENT! Anyway, just check out the song credits from Brothers and Sisters to today, and I for one see that Dickey has contributed way more to the band than has Gregg. And this was not the Gregg and Duane band, it was a band of the original members, and coming down to brass tacks, to the bottom line, Jaimoe and Butch would have put the band out of business a long time ago, with their non contributions, so of course now they may want to grab some of Dickey's song writing credits, and then his royalties. Dickey's best defense to the band is to starve them, and to litigate the hell out of them and to keep the abb from playing his songs. And if you think I sound disloyal, or you think that perhaps I have the wrong attitude, well people, Dickey was no Johnny Come Lately. Warren and Derek are the posers. Dickey is proven talent, and way too freaking many in the abb community do not want to allow him to grow old, you just want to hear guitars, and just to hell with Dickey. Well, fortunately I am not as easily seduced by the siren sounds, the music, of Warren and Derek, and therefore I can stand here and tell them to get careers of their own. This is not Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Dickey is not dead, and Dickey belongs in the band he made famous. Let Warren and Derek play in their own bands. If Gregg is not loyal to Dickey, what does that prove? The man has been married 5 times, and he turned state's witness to keep his own ass out of prison in the seventies. Well, that is all I have to say today. So kick Gregg out of the ABB. He's old. He was fat and made the band look bad during the nineties with his continued drug and alcohol abuse. Fair is fair. Better late than never. Kick Gregg out, I think he is holding back Butch and Jaimoe, don't you? Be nice. Does everyone know what it means to play the devil's advocate? Does anyone think I will earn a lot of friendly replies by challenging the "quote" leadership of the present band. Warenn and Derek have everything to gain and nothing to lose by putting Dickey out. Neither Derek or Warren can make as much money as in the Allman Brothers. Y'know Johnny Van Zant hopped right on the Lynyrd Skynyrd band wagon right after Allen Collins died in 1990. Skynyrd was formed by Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and Gary Rossington. Well, Ronnie and Allen died, and right after Allen died the band sued to call itself Lynyrd Skynyrd. That band called it's first album in 1991, Skynyrd 1991, or Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991, and was in litigation to use the name. They had to settle. So, you see, regardless of the name, only one guitar player, and the original keyboardist remain in Lynyrd Skynyrd. Everybody else is dead, or like Ed King, kicked out of the band. Well, this is just a comparison. Follow the history of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and you might understand, or see a similar history in the Allman Brothers. I just added this for the comparison. And Ed King also sued Lynyrd Skynyrd as I recall. [Edited on 4/11/2002 by JaminRebel][Edited on 4/11/2002 by JaminRebel][Edited on 4/11/2002 by JaminRebel]

What the hell was the point of that babble? Oh no, I bet everything will change now that this very important person is upset!

Dickey is washed up! He fell off a stage in Portland last year because he was so drunk! Here is some free advice, take your can of bud and pack of marlboro's back to your trailer and wait for the next Dickey concert. That way you and about 20 other rednecks can get drunk and raise your fist in the air when he lets his bandmates sing for him!

JAG, How're you doing bro, long time no see -- you forgot to mention that the 20 rednecks don't have any teeth -- are you softening up in your old age or what? Seriously I hope you're doing well.

JaminRebel, wasn't that 1991 Skynyrd release called The Last Rebel?

Dickey, Warren, Jack, Jimmy H., Derek -- they're all great musicians. It's Dickey who belongs in the Allman Brothers, based on longevity and contributions. It's pretty basic. BUT, as they say, What's Done Is Done, the rift is final & you have to move on.

Maybe someday Dickey will walk onto the stage as a guest of Jaimoe's at one of Jaimoe's jazz gigs, and start picking some Django Rheinhardt or Wes Montgomery or Charlie Christian riffs.

JAG-Yawn. Your **** is tired. If you ever took the time to listen, Dickey's music is much more than rebel rock. The music is a fusion of styles- blues, country, country blues, jazz, rock, Texas swing, World music [what kind of category is that?!] Anyway, the man is a master as well as an American Legend & you might be wise to recognize. Dickey may not be in his prime like Derek, Jimmy, Warren, etc. Way I see it, Dickey is a teacher who had some very bright students. Plus, a headhunter too. I mean, gettin Warren the f***in gig in the first place!
BTW, We'll see who's washed up this summer. The tapes don't lie. And if I forgot to mention, when I think of the Allman Brothers Band, the first thing I think of is that unmistakeable tone locked into a dual lead harmony playing the sweetest melody this side of heaven. THAT, young JAG is the Allman Brothers Band.

Yes, but this is nothing compared to how it's gotten in the past, like when Dickey was first fired, and after 9/11, with people calling each other names and stuff (I was called a "commie bastard.")
Brer JAG hasn't posted in months. You just have to get used to him. Personally I think his post was hilarious.

Reply to Jaminrebel, I love Dickey, but I cannot let you talk about Gregg that way. YES he may have a throat allergy, did you KNOW that he STILL gets stage fright before he performs? Part of that anxiety could cause throat spasms, and if his throat was dry, it is more than possible that what they stated his problem was, is correct. If someone has a severe allergy they can go into anaphylaxis and one of the things that happens is the throat closes up and the airway becomes obstructed and people have had to have a tracheotomy, (they cut a hole in your neck so you can breathe before you suffocate). If Gregg had to leave, he had to leave. He's worked beyond exhaustion and always given of himself, give him a break.

First off, that was classic JAG at it's finest!!!
Secondly, Gina, did you and JAG hook up in NY and are now caught up in some kind of lover's quarrel?
Thirdly, Heidi and I are going to see Dickey next weekend. I hope he doesn't fall off the stage and stumble over my mic stand.
And finally, Gregg aught to crank on some Michael Jackson and take a look at the man in the mirror. In my opinion, if the truth be known, I miss Dickey's playin' and singin' with the ABB.

Interestingly, at least a couple of the guys in Dickey's band -- Dave Stoltz and Kris Jensen -- became acquainted with Dickey though Jaimoe. Jaimoe, I'm sure, met them through his 'off-season' jazz gigs. (Dave went on to come within micrometers of the bass slot currently held by Oteil.) Peace. --Marley

I have no idea what this thread is currently about. But the title of it scared the hell out me.

I just want to say that Gregg Allman is my favorite member of this band and his own. His voice touches places inside my soul like nobody elses. I wish him all the best in his continuing recovery, and look forward to seeing him pursue any creative endeavor.

Did anyone but me notice that was an old post, dreged up from April? Why???

It's like he's trying just to start sh** again, and after reading another post earlier today saying he shouldn't and won't get into these type of discussions again....what's up with that?
Hey, man, don't complain later to everyone (the victim mode repeating itself), about getting flamed and persecuted on this forum...you asked for it, wide open, this time, by reposting that nonsense!
I take offense to your references to Warren and Derek being posers and to all the mean (yep, really mean) things you said about Gregg. That's uncalled for and very hateful. Bad karma, dude! You get what you deserve!!

Addendum: I thought SouthernMan brought this out of the garbage can again, not JAG. That's who my comments were directed to, not JAG or Melissa.[Edited on 6/27/2002 by musichick3]
