I write this in a state of considerable distress as my Labrador retriever, Belle, lies at my feet with health that is fast slipping away.
Forgive this unusual post, it's basically self therapeutic right now as we can't raise the vet at this hour.
Belle is coming up on 15 years old, and is having considerable difficulty breathing right now. Just writing this as a tribute to a beautiful dog who won't be with us by tomorrow or Monday.
Loved by all, neighbors up here have marveled at how it looked like she floated over the snow when running through the woods in wintertime. Playing wallball, I've seen her gain two feet from a vertical leap going for a ball. She's also the most beautiful, affectionate & faithful dog you could imagine, & again, I'm in pain right now as I watch her struggle.

You would see what I mean if could post a picture, which I'll see about in the next few days (no scanner though, also no digital images).

We love you Belle girl

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special
friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water
and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we
remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy
and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special
to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body
quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green
grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy
kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I've been where your at a few times

So sorry for your grief, in my thought and prayers

Sorry to hear about your Belle, Stephen. Sounds like she was your 'child' like Lola is my furry offspring. I hope she has unlimited snow for running in her corner of heaven.

I'm certain she does Deb -- it was all in how she reacted after taking "the shot" -- will never forget it -- she was lying there with her head up, I was right in front of her, the vet injected her and after about 8-10 seconds, she simply rested her head on the pillow and gradually stopped breathing -- it was like, -- Nice -- I'll definitely check this out -- no more labored breathing, no more puking, no more not feeling well -- yeah, this is good
the way she rested her head on the pillow after the injection was a beautiful moment
we stayed with her for a few minutes afterward -- she was as beautiful in death as in life -- just lying there, not breathing, with body language that conveyed nothing but peace.
It is very difficult right now -- was from the minute we left the vets -- a void that is very hard -- I will miss Belle in a very big way. Thank you & ayla for your messages
Love you girl -- you're the sweetest dog there ever was

8/28/2011 -- four years on I still miss my Belle -- the best of all dogs
