It's been suggested a thread should be started to celebrate the good that's being accomplished at Rose Hill in preserving the final resting place of Berry and Duane. Here it is.

Before everyone joined together to help raise money to protect the gravesites, they were targets of ongoing vandalism and desecration. While they're not out of the woods yet, we're almost $16K closer to making that protection a reality.

First thing we all need to do in this thread is give ourselves a pat on the back and ^5s all the way around. Second thing we need to do is ignore anyone who chooses to try to bring negativity into the thread. Repeat after me....they will not exist in this happy thread.

Good job everyone.

I was just remembering back to my high school days when I had a piece if sh!t 1962 Ford Falcon with a 8-track player bolted on under the dash. I had a tape of LAFE that I played endlessly, and when I wasn't in that car listening to the tape I was playing the songs over and over in my head. I had everything memorized note for note. If WP was 23 minutes and 6 seconds on the tape, it took me exactly 23 minutes and 6 seconds to replay it in my mind. Never before was there any music that affected me in that way, and there hasn't been any since. Before the Allman Brothers, music was just background noise to me, but ever since my first exposure to LAFE it has become a passion. I thank Duane and Berry for that.

The fact that Duane's and Berry's resting places are side by side is so fitting & appropriate -- a permanent memorial -- to a magical time, as well as to them. You look at the photo taken of them in Atlanta (I think) in July 1971 -- there they are in life -- & a relatively short time later -- together still, permanently memorialized. They were & are brothers in every sense of the word.

Good post bob1954 -- I can remember traveling one time & amazing the others in the car by knowing & humming along to every last note on Mtn. Jam -- it was EAP that changed my life & musical tastes, & I thank Duane & Berry for that.

Just what we need.
Another thread of self indulgence.
I believe this is why a lot of people are turned off by this whole thing.

Hi Bob, how're you doing friend -- you're welcome to post here (as you obviously just did, duh Stephen) -- the hope is to celebrate what Duane Allman & Berry Oakley mean to fans of the ABB -- an unabashed love thread dedicated to these two great musicians -- and to the fine work being done as a labor of that love at Rose Hill Cemetery (see the thread title -- Rose Hill success story)"

It would be great if people who don't wish to do this, would now go to the Rose Hill Follies thread instead -- in an effort to kinda separate the positive from the non-positive

Peace

That's awesome -- goodness, the legacy of love these two men left us with -- you all give yourselves a pat on the back if not just have a gigantic group hug -- yeah I like that better

I figure if the rose hill follies thread is going to stay at the top, by golly this one should too!

I know I've said this before but every time I've mentioned it, we've moved a little closer behind the scenes to making our dream a reality! There are things going on that bode really well for some good news soon!

Love this new thread! Good news only.....just what the fund needed. Thank you Ann, Dave, Sharon, Stephen, Bob, Renee, Skip......and everybody else I have forgotten to mention. Doing good is good for the soul. Now I hope that doesn't get anyone riled up but I know where my heart is and know that most if not all the people involved in this project have their hearts in the same place I do. Good things are happening! Yeeeaaaaa!!

I'm making it a point when I post in the other thread to come in here and post something happy. Has everyone seen the beautiful Rose Hill video that was posted in a link a while back? If not, let me know and I'll see if we can't revive it.....and for those of us who have, it might be nice to watch it again. It's a very tasteful work of art.

Every day I'm grateful for the wonderful people I've met through this project. Maybe some of us will never meet....but if we ever do...there's a bond that will always be there!

I'm feeling good when I picture this tasteful secure site. It sure looks like an improvement over the current situation, and it's given from the heart by the best fans in the land.

Yes it is! (or was, now) -- and, after reading the OM the album I wish I had to listen to was John McLaughlin's Shakti -- have always been curious about that one -- acoustic oriented I believe? -- have heard it's excellent.

$17,170 -- just fantastic -- shows a lot of love among doers, not just the lip service thing -- I sure admire you folks

I can put on enough clothes to get warm....I can't take off enough to stay cool! Could we please split the difference and have something in between? 103 with a 106 heat index....and it's cooler here than where Capt. Cutie is!

Next week we're getting two new airconditioners for the house and studio. We have three but we're only replacing two units.....now, why, do you ask, are we getting them next week rather than during this hot spell? Because Johnny didn't want to ask the men to go up into the attic as hot as it is or have to work outside in the heat!!!
