So I take Ambien CR to go to bed each night. I lay there for 20 minutes and get up and take a Klonopin.

I've been doing this for about 10 months now.


Is this bad?

Careful with them benzos Chris,you'll have a really hard time when you try to get to sleep if youu stop taking it,& the longer you use it the harder you make it for yourself to quit.Ambien just causes mental dependence,which can be a biatch to get over too.Either the Klonopin or the Ambien should be enogh on its own.I wouldn't say you're dancing with the devil,but you're sure smilin' at him

I would definitely stay away from the klonopin, as it will give you a hangover, plus it's really not the thing to take for sleep. It's a powerful drug, for a certain purpose. Have you tried 2 ambien's? Go to your doc and either talk about the dosage or look at other sleep meds, like lunesta, as it seems you've built up resistance to ambien. Stay away from things like klonopin & xanax, as there are much better alternatives.

Vodka & Jesus? Sounds like Kenny Chesney's next hit.

I can sympathize, I am going thru a major Federal Trial right now,and being bipolar doesn't help, I lay in bed at nite cross- examining myself at 4:00 am, my mind won't shut off. I take lithium, wellbutrin, zoloft, and klonopin. Since taking the lithium and klonopin at nite I am sleeping better, but I still suffer from racing and intrusive thoughts. But if it wasn't for my doctors and lawyers I'd be dead or in jail. My sympathies to all the troubled souls out there.

I can relate, Chris - miserable having insomnia, huh? AmbienCR did not work for me...I found myself up after taking that stuff and thinking I was functioning (long story short - do NOT attempt to drive with this stuff). I tried Lunesta once and it did help me sleep (gave me a little bit of a sleeping pill hangover the next day but nothing a cup of coffee couldn't handle). Since my Ambien experience I stay away from sleeping pills and just take an Excedrin PM and follow BDOB's advice. Good luck!

Doesn't sound good to me, take a walk before bed, turn off the day, eat a bowl of corn flakes (milk makes you tired), read copyright law books . Anything but the pills.

Prolly doesn't help that I'll take a ritalin in the morning and afternoon. I also take some supplements before I go for a run or to the gym.

I'm pretty wired during the day.

But no soda after 1pm.

Sounds like you've tried some pretty strong stuff, so this may not work for you, but I like Benadryl (or generic EQ). 2-3 of those pretty much knocks me out for 6-8 hours and it hits wicked fast if you've had a few pops. Don't know about long term use either, so I'd ask your doctor before you use it, but it might be a safer alternative.

Check into a sleep clinic. I couldnt sleep and was always tired the next day and found I had
Sleep apnea. I now sleep with a cpac maching. I was known as the King of Snore, getting
up during the night about 3-6 times. ALWAYS TIRED> The cpac machine is difficult to get use too but now I crave it. I never take any drugs for sleeping. I did find that I stop breathing 96 times per hour.. With the cpac machine, I stay asleep all night and I do not snore, and I dont even move. It scares my girlfriend, the difference me sleeping with and without it.

If its not sleep apnea, take BDOB's advice. That works great especially with a couple beers.

I snore bad and have put on the lbs in the last year. This week I cut out alcohol during the week. I need to drop 15-20 lbs.

I was supposed to go to a sleep clinic here in Charlotte last year but canceled the appointment.

What sucks is I travel alot too.... usually 8 nights a month... lots of air travel too.

Good to hear about your sleeping. I just went to a clinic and I guarantee they will say that I have sleep apnea along your lines. I know of 2 other people that use the machine and they sleep like babies at night. With little or no more snoring!

I have to cut out alcohol for three weeks for tests. Doctors orders. Thank goodness for
Coors Non Alcoholic. Its pretty good. Not quite the bite but good. I love a beer when cooking or grilling out. This stuff feels the void..........

They have a good travel bag for the cpac machine. You feel great the next day. It use to be after lunch I could hardly keep my eyes open. Now I am wide awake all day. Now after Dinner I ready to hit the sheets. In bed around 8-9 most nights, unless a good live show is in town.

I would reschedule your appt with the sleep clinic. Its hell to get use too, but you will crave that thing when you get tired....... Mine also has a humidifier on it to keep from drying you out so much.

For insurance reasons, they will ask for a meter reading on it to see if your using. Run it at night regardless if you use it, so the insurance will continue paying for it. Little trick to keep the insurance ferries off you.

That's my program too,2 Bennyhills(Benadryls) an hour or so before I want to crash usually gets me sleepy.Believe it or not,a glass of warm milk actually may help too.Used to take 50 to 100mg of Trazadone,but that stuff gave me even stranger dreams then I usually have & a little hangover.

Do you exercise regularly? Something that gives you a good sweat. That will help you sleep better. Works for me.

Try to stay away from the sleeping drugs. They're all right for just a few instances but regularly they'll screw you up IMO.
