hey there everyone....just wanted to let y'all know that i have been a ratdog fan ever since the band formed. in addition, i've also been a HUGE warren haynes/gov't mule fan for years. i would occasionally listen to allmans, and thought their stuff was cool, but MAN was i blown away tuesday night at nissan. what a sweet, tight band! derek is amazing, and the connection that flowed amongst all of the guys in the band instantly made me a fan for life.

i know from reading the posts that there are many mixed reviews of the ratdog set from allmans fans. i thought they did an amazing job, but one thing i must point out to many of you is the whole steve kimock thing is still fairly new to the band, and i'm sure each time ratdog takes the stage, they still are dealing with an endless array of emotions, highs & lows. kimock is filling in (as most of you know) for mark karan who is battling throat cancer. so kimock graciously is filling the spot for a guy that to all of us ratdog fans, is a huge "rock" to the band. it was strange for me (as well as most ratdog fans, i am sure) to NOT see karan's smiling presence up there on stage. please, if you could, send out some positive vibes for mark karan and his family. steve kimock is a tremendous musician, and i've seen him with his band zero as well as in other projects. he indeed deserves kudos for filling in during this emotional time. but please, i do ask you...if you ever get to check out ratdog once karan returns, i promise you that you will become a lifelong fan like me!!!!!

anyway, back to the allmans....as i said, i gained a newfound respect for the band. great vibes from the band and the fans. yeah, i know us ratdog fans are a bit "weird", but we're all just deeply passionate, peace & love hippies looking to smile, bop, and dance our way through this crazy world, and share our music with anyone willing to listen.

peace & hugs to you all man.....and respect to yer band. proud to now say i'm an allmans fan, for real.

I loved Ratdog at the Nissan and Pixberg shows. I thought they were really good.

I was glad to have Ratdog fans at the shows. Lots more people dancing.

the vibe has been beautiful for me.

Peace

Right back at you brother! I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed the Ratdog shows this week. Bobby's voice sounds strong and clear, and Kimock is playing great, although I join everybody in wishing Mark Karan well with his illness. The setlists have included a lot of my favorite Dead classics, like Estimated Prophet and The Music Never Stopped last night, so it's all good from my point of view. Add in the fact that the Allmans are playing at a white-hot peak right now, and you have the early smart money contender for "Tour of the Year."

I've been at the venue early setting up the Hittin' the Note booth, and I've definitely been impressed by Ratdog's soundchecks as well. They have played about 45 minutes both nights, and it's obviously from these lengthy, Dead-style soundchecks that they really enjoy playing together. It doesn't take that long to get the mix right, so they must just enjoy jamming. I dig that.

Welcome to the family!

Hey everyone, that last post was actually from me, I'm using WillieHoward's computer and I didn't realize he was still logged in. Oops!

Willie isn't as big a Dead fan as I am, as many of you know, and I didn't want anybody thinking he had been abducted by aliens or something Any and all pro-Dead comments on this thread are my doing, not his, and he cannot be held responsible for them.

Carry on!

Hang around for a while, enjoy the + vibes. We are a tight community here. Lots of love, lots of pre-show gatherings and parties, lots of bonds formed and friendships cherished. Next thing you know, you'll be all up in the middle of it. It's a beautiful thing.

Welcome To the BEST music community on the web Sunnyskies! You will love it here, we are a close, passionate and knowledgeable bunch of music fans for sure...

Really loved your first post and so happy you were digging The Brothers the other night. I too am a Ratdog fan and as you can see by my signature a HUGE Steve Kimock fan as well. I am praying hard for Mark to heal quickly and fully and I was also happy to learn that Steve got the gig once Mark had to pull out. Kimock is an amazing player and a nice fit for Ratdog even though he is not really able to stretch out as much as he does with his own band and take over as much. Anyway, welcome to our little corner of the world! ...and yeah, The ABB smokes! Warren and Derek are by far the best duo on wheels and will astound us anytime they take the stage. When they are on their game, not many bands can keep up with them, if any. IMO this is a great double-bill and lots of us - though not everyone - are pretty stoked about it...

Peace and good music...

A Ratdog fan is a friend of mine. I have to say that I am a Steve Kimock fiend. I have caught 3 really tight Ratdog shows this summer. Cleveland 7/16, Columbus 7/17, & opening for the ABB on WED 8/15/2007. I have also caught 3 ZERO shows this year as well. I love MK, but I must say that Ratdog certainly has gelled with Steve and he's feeling good about where he's at right now, and I think MK would agree that Steve is holding down his seat well. If you would like to send Mark Karan love & light, please sign up at http://www.carepages.com:80/ServeCarePage?cpn=GetwellMark&uniq=403370&a mp;extrefid=tlcupdate you just have to register which only takes a minute and type "getwellmark"(all one word) and you will get updates from support@carepages.com It's really easy to do and Mark, Maile(Mark's wife) & Eliizabeth(Mark's Mom) would really appreciate it.
On a lighter note, the 8/15 Burgettstown,PA Ratdog/ABB show was absolutely great. Great double bill, they should do it more often IMHO. I trade live music and would love to get a decent Audience recording of the ABB @t Post Gazette Pavilion 8/15.
I have lots to trade and it would make my day. Anyway I just wanted to say hello to a fellow Bonehead and all you great ABB fans as well. Here is my list: http://db.etree.org/roadawg
I hope this reaches someone whom would like to trade.

Roll On & Bless Up,
mtnjamfan

MTNJAMFAN, welcome to you as well! I dig your signature. There's a lesson to be learned in it.

One quick note. More like a heads up. There are some strong opinions about music on this website. If someone voices a review that's not favorable to a band you may be partial to, don't take offense. It's just their opinion.

Have fun, post often. Oh, and check out the TRADES forum for sharing music.

Welcome SunnySkies! I'm a lifelong Deadhead and am a Ratdog fan, also (in addition to being lifelong ABB fanatic). I'm loving all the great reviews I've been reading about this concert pairing and am glad to hear that Ratdog is giving it up on this tour. Only thing missing - ME! Would love to see Kimock with Bobby's band. Enjoy these boards!

LifeLongHead here... lots of history on the road years ago - and a couple life changing meetings on ancient tours (my sweet husband!)

BitterSweetly, our 12 y/o son reminded me, on our drive up to Nissan Tuesday night, that RatDog was the very first show he ever 'saw' (he was 5 weeks old) - it was RichmondVA 8.18.95, almost 12 years to the day...
I shed a tear or three, BitterSweetly.

I'm really glad to see you enjoyed the Allman Brothers, they really are something spectacular. I was at the Nissan show as well and thorougly enjoyed the Ratdog set. It is kind of the opposite for me, even though I have seen Ratdog once, they are not the reason I went to the show. I ended up really liking their set though. I understand the struggle with Mark and I hope things go well for him. I also recently discovered Kimock this spring and I think he is a great fit as well. I'm just glad to see you enjoyed the Allman Brothers so much, nothing like going to a show and being pleasantly surprised.

I know I will John...and if you think Kimock is good with Ratdog, you NEED to hear him with his own Band "SKB", you will be blown away my friend. I will have to send you a taste. He is world class with the most gorgeous tone out there...his guitar voice just drips with a certain clarity and fullness that most players can only dream about. Those expensive Two-Rock amps he plays through certainly don't hurt either...

By the way, its K-I-M-O-C-K...for some reason his name gets misspelled a lot. ...kind of like Derrick's...LOL!

Well, I guess those kind of shingles are better than the other kind of shingles. Actually, neither kind sounds like fun to me.

Hate we missed you, too, Maggie, but I understand sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Give my regards to Henry. See you guys sometime in the not to distant future!!

I honestly was blown away by the ABB at Nissan. As I said, the main reason I went tot he show was to see RatDog (for the billionth time), but figured seeing ABB would be a cool lil' treat. Well, needless to say, that "cool lil' treat" turned out to be the live show of the year for me. I was mesmerized. A friend of mine was there with me, and we pretty much watched in awe with our jaws to the floor through the ABB set. Seeing the way Warren and Derek played off each other was surreal. Absolutely amazing.

I met so many cool people, and it was fun watching "my" RatDog fans mingle with "your" Allmans fans. And you could tell the people that were genuinely there for the music loved meeting, mingling, and appreciating each others music. I definitely walked out of that place feeling this cool cosmic connection.

The only bummer of the night was the parking lot cops acting a bit like Hitler. But that's expected at Nissan.

Another problem I had was at the beginning of the show. My section (102) was fairly empty when RatDog came on stage. Well, as soon as they started playing, I immediately jumped to my feet and started dancing. RatDog wasn't even 3 verses into "Truckin", when I felt a very abrupt and really hard tap, tap, tap on my shoulder, and there was some dude yelling at me: "You need to sit down, I can't see the show!" Then he stormed back to his seats about 2 rows behind me. Well, never in my life have I EVER sat at a RatDog show...or any concert, for that matter. But I was so taken aback I kinda just slumped down in a seat. Now, it's not like I'm a huge obstruction....I'm a 35 year old chick that weighs about 115lbs, minding my own business and bopping to the beat. What the hell??? After a few more verses, I just said "Screw it, I paid for these tickets", so i stood back up for the rest of the show, but stood pretty much in the aisle to avoid being in anyone's way. What a tool.

Anyhow, the vibes of EVERYONE else were great. Again, thank you all for making so many of us RatDog fans feel a part of your family. And I hope you know, YOU'RE all a part of OUR family now too!!!

Peace & Hugs!

SunnySkies, the GD crowd and the ABB crowd have a connection that goes WAY back, like back to 1969 or 1970 playing Fillmore dates together. Browse through the photo gallery and you'll see pictures of both bands jamming on the same stage at the same time, and there's a cool photo of Berry Oakley backstage with Jerry Garcia. And there's also a photo of Berry with a GD shirt on. So, again, welcome to our little corner of the internet. By the way, there was an interesting discussion recently on whether it was cool to dance or not dance, and how to react when asked to sit down. ABB fans have the same instincts to get up and groove, and have to deal with the grumps, too. So, we can relate.
