What was staged as a graduation party for a fellow named Drake, turned into an early version of the Jam For Duane ... almost. I don't know Drake, but I spoke to him and his dad briefly. Drake just graduated from Auburn University's Building Science program. If you know anything about building science (or Auburn University), you know that they don't hand those shingles out on street corners. Congratulations to the Drake! Anybody who stages a party featuring the Skydogs as entertainment gets a PHD in my book! Congratulations, Drake!

The early similarity to the Jam For Duane was borne out of the appearance of a large handful of folks who traveled from out of town. I'll never remember everybody, but I did see and chat with Susea! Haisija made the trip, too. Great seeing him up there with his pack dawg buddies (AKA the Hayseeds). Great to see that Ling (I KNOW I mis-spelled that!) too!

Aside from the travelers, there were the usual group of Gadsdenians, notably Bupalo1 (Randy), Jimmy Walker and Lee Ann (Leighann?) and her look-alike husband and sons (if someone will spot me their names, I SWEAR I won't forget them again).

The Skydogs are just an incredibly fun band to go out and see! Brent, Frankie and Drummy are just so intense! Having Hasija (Jon) and Big Stephen McCullough up there just makes the event even more intense! Everything they played was incredible, but I think my favorite part of the evening was hearing Big Stephen sing the Temptation's, "Papa Was a Rolling Stone". Big Stephen has got some pipes on him! He's also just about the finest keyboardist this side of Chuck Leavell! I mean that!

Great seeing everybody at 2nd Street Music Hal! Noticeably absent were Carl Weaver, Lee Beene and Johnny. My prayers and thoughts are for Johnny's recovery. I hope to see you up and around soon, my friend.

RB

Rusty,

If I didn't have a gig on Saturday, I would have been there....

Had this been on Friday instead of a Saturday, I'm sure I would have made it...ABB show or not. My regular Sunday commitments prevented me from doing this one. Hate I missed it, but GABBAfest and JFD are just around the corner. Then, I'll be in all my Hayseed glory!

Good to see Ms Snowflake, in from Minn. too.

Was that a blast, or what??!! BTW, Jimmy Henderson on drums. And talk about guys playing for their own entertainment. Just off the charts! Big enthusiatic dancing crowd helped too. There's something so powerful going on in my little town. Really loved seeing the joy in all the faces.

Yeah, I was out of town vacationing in Orlando for my wedding anniversary. Wish I could have been in two places at once. Hope I didn't just lose my job.LOL

BTW, got a PM referencing Rusty's comment about Johnny being missing due to illness.
The "Johnny" referenced was my friend Johnny Wiemann, who has been to a few shows with me of late, and who recently suffered a stroke, previously mentioned on the GB.

'Twas not Johnny Sandlin.

The 'Dawgs play Horsepens 40 couple times a year....biker-type events mostly.

Cool place, between Gad. and Oneonta.

I saw some pics that Haisija posted when he played with the Skydogs there earlier this year and I have passed it on my way to Brent's. That is definitely some beautiful country there....

I have wanted to go there especially after Rusty posted here a year or so ago. If I remember correctly he spelled it "horepens". It has held my fascination ever since.....

Wonder Why.....
