I'm so tempted . . .

After 15 hours in the sun and crowd at Crossroads, I don't know if I can take another day long event.

Sound like I'm getting old!

Wonder if there will be a webcast?

Good for you,Effie

I'm waiting until a few days before to see the weather. As much as I like the lineup, these days I just can't hang out in 90 degree weather for 10-12 hours.

the weather is always a concern--i've done so many outdoor shows & festivals i just take it as it comes--the heat could be a serious drag on me--but,there are always ways to solve some of it by taking breaks, leaving your seat to stand in the shade, alot of water drinking, alot of rest the day before,& pray!!!!!.........but,worth takin the chance--we took a chance to see LEVON HELM in Central Park & heavy rain & thunderstorms were predicted up till we got there---but,it only drizzled...of course our chants of no rain may have helped anyway,i hope a bunch of us take the plunge....& we get to see one another.....

The show starts at noon....

Have a major scheduling conflict, but ABB and DTB on the bill makes this almost a must see. Neil w/ the Brothers?! Ooooohh! I may just have to suck up a little yelling from wifey, but it'll be worth it.

Have a blast Effie. I too was tempted when I saw the family additions to the lineup. Then reality sets in and it is just too long of a day. My bad back won't allow it. I will though be getting my Allman Brothers fix on August 21, my Mule fix on September 6, and my Derek Trucks Band fix on November 17 so don't feel bad for me.

I could see an EPIC version of 'Cortez the Killer' with Warren, Dave Matthews, and Neil Young all sharing the stage. That would be special.

Does anyone know if they allow chairs to be brought in for General Admition???

Blankets only they say---i got seats & hope to move around to shady spots--if there are any--anyone here ever been to this place--i'm curious--how far is parking to the venue? is the sound good? Any other important things good or bad to be aware of?

If they allowed you to bring in a folding chair for GA I would have reconsidered. There is just no way otherwise. Hopefully this show will be broadcast or streamed somewhere.

Pete--driving there or public transportation? If the problem is heavy traffic then we'll deal with that---i'm more concerned regarding the walking distance from parking to venue.

I have heard that driving there is a nightmare. Something about only one way in and out. This is all hearsay though. Not sure about mass transit and not sure about the distance from parking lot to venue.

I've never seen a concert at this venue, but I am quite certain there is no public train stop on the island. They may run a special bus for such events, but I don't think there is one of those typically either. There is only vehicle access from the expressway by the Triboro bridge. There is an exit for the island as the Grand Central takes you to the bridge. I would imagine with an event of that size, the traffic situation could get pretty bogged down. If the Yanks or the Mets have a game that afternoon, it might be a lot of fun out there...... But hey what's a little traffic, if you have the time and money to go, it looks worth it!

My daughter was there a couple of weeks ago for Wutang and Rage Against the Machine... different crowd to be expected for this show. But she said the wait for the bus was horrible, about two hours each way (she stayed until the end of the show), and not well organized. Traffic in and out was reportedly bad, but she did not drive to know for sure.

Since the concert area is flat, if you're not near the front, you can't see the stage.

But the good news is the sound was good, the drink lines fairly short, lots of porta-pots, with somewhat long food lines.

Effie, if you expect problems with the walk, call the venue management and explain your circumstances. Most venues are very accommodating.

we'll probably drive--is the walk from parking lot far? i will call to see if there are disability accomodations for parking--i find some venues are great & some(the meadowlands) are a pain--but,i'll try & i'm in the second section back--so we should see--if not,i'm ok so long as the heat isn't too crazy(ms is an illness where heat is awful) & so long as the sound is good--that's a key---Alan & others ,thanks for the input--anyone else have info, please let me know--sorry to be a pain to people, but i find when i line these things up in advance i can enjoy more....& i just sent an email to the nyc parks dept. which handles this stuff,so we'll see what happens....thanks again for your suggestions & comments on the venue...much appreciated & more welcome!!!

That would be the Mclain Auditorium show at Mamaroneck High School that Jeff(Vinsanity) helped to make happen. About an hour drive for me, but I figured it would be neat to see Derek in this setting and to see how the audience responds. I'm not sure if it is sold out.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm hoping that it is streamed on the computer so I can keep my TV on the football games.

Hey Effie! Bob and I will be there. We got VIP seats so we can escape from the sun or rain if need be. After sitting in the sun at Wanee, I know I can't stay out all those hours if it's a hot, sunny day. A friend who's been to Randall's Island for the DMB shows says mass transit is a nightmare, definitely drive if you can. Could take hours to get out by bus after the show, maybe only half an hour if you drive. She also said you can't see well past the first 2 sections, another reason we splurged on the VIP thing.
There are $300 VIP seats available, but you have to go to the tickets for charity site, not ticketmaster; they only have the $1000 and $1500 VIP tix.The $300 tix will put you in rows 3-7, with all the same perks the bigger $$ tix holders get.
