In Jacksonville, FL we have grocery outlets such as:

These are probably the big three here.

Winn Dixie
Food Lion
Publix

We also have

Rowes-- this used to be Albertsons. I never shop here.
WalMart has also gotten into the grocery biz.
Sam's also has food, but in bulk.

Super K-mart, Piggly Wiggly, Community Cash, and Winn Dixie all pulled out of the 5th fastest growing area(new homes) in the nation(per capita). We have the Super Wal-Mart to thank for this.

We have Publixs, Food Lion, Bilo for reg grocery shopping.

We also have a Fresh Market, that stocks alot of really good stuff, but is super high. We also have Big Lots, which is bargin blow outs, and Aldi which is a 1st quality seconds store.

Winn Dixie
Harvey's (South Ga only)
Piggly Wiggly
Food Max
UGA
Food Lion

I learned the hard way to never by meat from Wal-Mart. Took it back and got a shock. They don't advertise this but if you take bad meat back for a refund they give you DOUBLE your money back. No lie. This was a couple yrs back but I think the policy still stands.

The one I love and miss the most is Krogers. We had one waaaay back and I think some company bought them out and they chose to not build another store here. The last time I vacationed at Pigeoon Forge Tn I saw a Krogers and had to go. So clean, very nice. They have products that don't seem to be available in most stores.

i'm liking the Publix best around here,
so far. Can't belive i havent run into Mrs. Tedeschi-Trucks in it yet!

the dirt mall, followed by the organic grocery at 5 Points is where i've been getting most of my food staples. The store in five points - called Grass Roots - is surprisingly reasonable price wise, compared to a Whole Foods or what not.

Morganton NC: We have all the above except no Pig. Never heard of it either.

What we also have is a new Aldi store. Selling mostly their own label goods for very low prices. Just a little too unusual for me though. Milk is only sold in one gallon size. Several products I would normally buy are not sold. There is a quarter deposit to use a cart and of course bring your own bags or purchase them. Then you bag your own groceries. Coming through the entrance of the store and proceeding down the first isle is a little like a cattle chute...

I prefer Food Lion, there are four in town.

In Jacksonville we also have some Save A Lots and I think we now have a couple of Harris Teeters but you can tell I don't live near these stores. We also have Costco but I don't know if they sell general groceries.

We used to have A and P's but I guess they closed or got bought out. We also had Albertsons that became Rowes, and we had Pantry Pride many, many years ago. We had a farmer's market downtown and it was an institution. I saw on the news a good while back that the space had been bought and that the vendors and the market would have to be relocated. I don't know what became of it.

Also, I know they have a Piggly Wiggly in Lake City, FL which is about 60 miles from Jax.
